My wife and I were up late last night and saw this guy on Austin City Limits. His name is Paolo Nutini. He's Scottish, and on Austin City Limits, my wife and I were really enjoying the sound but laughing b/c we couldn't understand 1/2 of what he said. Something about "the ass now smells of mosquito powder" or something. It was something fun that would have been SO much better with a bit of alcohol.

Anyhow, I downloaded the album 'These Streets' and you can actually understand 99% of the words.. so I don't know if the guy was just high/drunk on Austin City Limits or what. But the sound is great and I really like the sound.

It's new to me, and haven't heard anyone mention him, so I just thought I'd share.

Geez, I was trying to reply to this thread and my stupid internet kept dying.

I got to see him at Voodoofest and he was pretty drunk/stoned/high on life there, too. Still put on a good show, but he has a weird habit of singing while hunched over the microphone. I was probably 20 feet from the stage. The audience wasn't huge, but he's getting a decent-sized following over here. The women all thought he was gorgeous and you could tell the guys were looking at the adoring girls, looking at Paolo, and thinking "How can I work this to my advantage?"

The crowd really got into it when he started singing a song called "Funky Cigarettes," if you can imagine that happening at Voodoofest ;)

The whole show on TV, he was hunched up on the mike with his eyes closed.

I watched him on ACL Saturday too. I was watching it for Grupo, but had to sit through him first. I had heard the "New Shoes" song and liked it. It was hard to sit through. I agree- I could not understand most of what he said. I have the "New Shoes" on my ipod and have had it for a few months and loved that song, I just couldn't understand the others.

Grupo Fantasma was fantastic and I can't wait until the 30th when they are at the Hippo. I have my baby sitter lined up already!
