I cannot wait for this to come out. The reviews are glowing, and it's a Sondheim musical adaptation done by Tim Burton, with Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter, and Alan Rickman in the lead roles.
The film's website, with some audio, is here (http://www.sweeneytoddmovie.com/)

I really want to see it. The trailer was shown during the "Beowulf" trailers...looks awesome! Now I just have to twist the hubby's arm into going with me.
I really wasn't too impressed with the musical moments shown during the trailers but the dark undertones are right up my alley and the historical significance. I will most definetely be going to see this one.

Technically there isn't a whole lot of historical significance. The musical was always advertised as being "based on a true story," but it wasn't based on a particular event anymore than The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was. While the legend of a murderous barber has been around for a while, I don't think anyone has found evidence to suggest he really existed.

Has anyone seen this movie yet? I saw it and I really liked it. It was certainly "different" but I enjoyed the darkness and mood.
I didn't enjoy the idiots who brought their young children to see it. I wanted to strangle them... You should have a license to have children...there should be a competency test to pass or something...

Luvia I just loved that comment about having a license. I am giggling.
I'm always annoyed when people bring small kids into movies-- unless it's a children's movie. Yeah, they have the right, I know. But damn. Some consideration please. Babysitters can't be that hard to come by, right!?
I say this, but last time I saw a mother come into the theater-- late-- with two small children, I sighed loudly-- but the kids didn't make a sound throughout the entire movie.
Maybe she drugged 'em.

You know, it wasn't really that the kids were misbehaving...because I didn't hear a peep. If you see the movie, you'll understand how totally inappropriate it was for young kids. I'm all for encouraging a love of horror and gore...seriously I am...but this was just NOT smart parenting at all.

Well, I always said, just like voting, everyone shouldn't be allowed to procreate.

That's good enough for me :-D ( although he DOES look a bit green around the gills in that movie )
