Diamond star motorsports in short
Most of the time if you ever see a starion , conquest, colt, galant , you will hear them referred to as a dsm.
They are a fun four cylinder car to mod, but there is not many in mississippi that even run. I had to go to kentucky to get mine , well i should say one that doesnt suck.
its a 92 gst they made two versions of the 1990-1994 eclipse/talon/laser body style like mine
the fwd - gst /tsi /rst
and awd -gsx/tsi awd/ rst
it was a very popular car back in the day, the motors made 190bhp and 185 ft/lbs of torque
and in 1989 when they hit showroom it was very popular because back then seeing that out of a 4 cylinder turbo was impressive
The conquest/stario was a pre 1990's dsm , powered by a 4 cylinder turbo rwd , excessively slow but people still buy them to mod, the tranny will bolt up to any 4g63 motor (class of motor name for the eclipse/talon/laser) making a nice rwd project.
Then there was a rare car that many people never notice or see, mitsubishi revealed the galant vr4 from 1990-1992 i cant remember the numbers right now but I now round about less than four thousand were made
they were powered by the typical , 4g63 awd, they are often alluded to as mitsubishis first evo
i dont feel like talking about other things right now though cause im bored so later

pook, my buddy from highschool has a 95 GST that he got for cheap and the thing hauls...
but everytime he goes to do soemthin to it or make it faster he runs into odd problems that should be easy fixes but aren't.
as far as the crankwalk and stuff, thats just issues i've heard from www.homemadeturbo.com and www.turbod16.com (d16 is the honda 1.6L that is in most 96-00 civics. ) pretty cheap to boost... plus if you blow the block they are cheap to get b/c everyone on www.honda-tech.com is going w/ the DOHC.
Rock out with your SOHC out.

Back in the day when I lived in Jackson, I terrorized the streets in a red Conquest TSI. Your right about being somewhat slow in stock trim, but I put a boost controller on it and increased my boost from 7psi to 13psi and a pipe and it turned into a screamer. Those were the days.

My first car, 1989 Ford Tempo, bought from my aunt for $1500 in 1996. Had 72k miles on it and was leaking oil from some place. I had to put a quart in it every morning before school. If I came to a stop for more than 2 minutes, I had to shut it off to stop it from overheating and blowing out the most awful thick white smoke that lingered for half an hour. Looked like the car was on fire. One day, in front of school, traffic was backed up, and the radiator exploded. They had to flag buses around me, I stayed in the car letting the smoke hide my identitiy. :smt086 When dad came with his truck to tow it home, I had him call me in sick, and went home with him.
After we got the radiator fixed, I drove it to a friends, and didn't put oil in it, on the way there and back there is a bood mile long stretch of straight road. On the way back it was smoking out the tailpipe with a trail that had to be a half mile long behind me. I floored it on the straightway, and at just over 40mph ( took near the end of the straightway to get there ) it locked up.

my first truck was a 1985 toyota pickup 4banger w/ 5sp.
I learned how to drive a stick with that truck on a PIPELINE in the RAIN. my dad was plantin some rye grass just after a sprinkle and he said i could drive around while he disked up the field. bought it for $500 with 270k on it and drove it from Enterprise to Decatur twice a week while at EC. I've still got it for yard work and if i put a few minutes of love into it it'll crank. Somethin's wrong either in the trans or rearend b/c it screams like a banshee if you get over 20mph. I swear you can hear it for about 3 miles.
then i bought my current 97 Civic that i got for $7k with 55k on it in 2003 off a ford lot. its got 127k on it now and i'm lookin to get a newish chevy in a month.

i consider my 3 speeding tickets and "failure to stop for traffic device" an excessive record...
1. 84 in a 65 - $30 traffic school
2. 65 in a 55 - $190 i think
3. 72 in a 70 - $182
4. i supposedly "rolled" through the stop sign on Hwy 45N at Scooba. $167 later... I call BS b/c I saw the cop when i was pulling up to the sign. I don't think the 5% on 5% tint + exhaust helped any. And my sister undoing the "quiet" mode on my stereo while i'm talkin to the nice occifer. i hate that guy.

My first ride was a black '74 Nova Coupe. Great car. 350, Edelbrock aluminum intake, Quadrajunk 4-barrel, mufflers sawed off and tossed in the trunk. No horn or radio, but it didn't need either. You could hear me coming from a dozen blocks away.
Cost my grandmother $775, and she took me at my word that it was a good and reasonably safe car. The truth, however, that it was a drag car I got from a dude down in Wiggins. I don't know about now, but back then, drag racing in Wiggins was an every night thing. Even the local cops got into the action.
This car was all top end. You could almost guarantee a win if it was an 1/8 mile race. But in the quarter, when that sucker sat down, it would peel the whiskers off your face as it flew by.
I killed it on Old Richton Rd in that damned S curve. This was one of the few days when there wasn't a cop sitting there. I was just learning to drive, and had previously had problems keeping that car under control. I hit the S at about 90, was all the way into the left lane as I came around the first curve...and, naturally, there was a car coming. I hooked hard right, then snatched back left. This put both the dummies riding with me into my friggin' lap. I struggled to untangle my leg so I could hit the brakes, but I...hehe...stomped down on the wrong pedal.
Needless to say, when I hit that elderly couple's yard, I was wide open. Their yard has a small hill, then a drop-off, then a cement driveway. I hit that hill, went airborne for what seemed like forever, then nose planted that car into their driveway, bending the frame, snapping the battery cables, and essentially graduated my first crucial driving lesson.
It was kinda funny, though. They had some of those wooden geese things in their yard. I turned them into toothpicks as I came through. When the cops got there, they asked the old man if he wanted to report any damages. He glanced over at his wife picking up the splintered geese, smiles, and says "Nah. No damage done."
The old dude was cool about it. I'll give him that. He said that he's had several people fly off that curve into his yard, but never had one land so close to his doorstep.
Well, I ended up getting a ticket for no DL. In court, the judge asks me if the charge was accurate. I told him it was. He asked if I had my license yet, and I told him no. He asks me why. I replied that I had no car. He frowned and said "Well that's a lame damn excuse." "Well," I said. "It's the only damn one I've got."
The mood turned sour after that.

Hmmmm 28 in a 20, 75 in a 55, 67 in a 55, 40 in a 30 and some others...I've never asked...my avg is going to be 10+ whatever the speed limit is...I've slowed down now that gas is so high...I can't afford to blow the tank quick! :) However, when I'm running late to work - 90 it is.
I got a ticket for the 28 in a 20 and then 2 in one night - the 40 in a 30 and crossing the yellow line...it was late and I was the DD...as I was adjusting the seatbelt in my friend's car...a Gulfport cop thought he would be neat and get the chick drinking and driving; needless to say, I don't drink. Oh well...he was a jerk anyway...the rest weren't so bad.
I got pulled over in Biloxi a few weeks ago...I didn't realize the SUV behind me was a Biloxi cop...dammit! He told me he was just giving me a warning, but he didn't realize I had an "extensive driving record"...I guess I'm quite the criminal! lol

No, I just told him that so he makes it good.
My first car was a 1978 VW Rabbit. http://home.earthlink.net/~dogruel/photos/cars/DSCN3491a.JPG
Mine was uglier than this. It had spotty tan paint. It didn't have a radio or first gear, and one day when I hit a bump in the road, the rearview mirror fell into my lap. My dad traded an old boat and a cb radio for it. It was a shiddy car. But when you're 15 and it's all you've got, it's pretty cool. I spent lots of time going up and down back roads in that thing.
