yay the motor in the transam locked up, i never loosing over fourthousand dollars was so entertaining

oh well , time to see if i cant lose another four , gave me motivation to finish the eclipse

so far i have every part to finish it except i need a new driver side axle, a new slave cylinder , and some fluid

i am gonna put this motor in without an engine lift, if things go well i want the motor to be in saturday then its wiring time :smt023

it was a pain getting the motor off the engine stand without a lift bout broke my foot haha

some pics, looks like my grandmama might get mad at me though  i am gonna need some of the carport for the weekend :(

how did the ta lock up?

arggg i dunno i thought i had a wiring problem mechanic told me he couldnt get it to turn over but i can said, there was water atop the pistons so i really dont now how that got there he said it was all rusted up car used to run sat for a few months then wouldnt turn over, could push start it off , jumping it would get the motor to buck over a little but without jumpers the starter would whine.

i thought it was an electrical problem, and this guy said he knew all about these motors and he told me mine was toast so to the dump it goes hi ho ! i dont want to ever see it again

it only sat there at his shop for a few days, i could turn it over but he said he couldnt i admit it was hard to turn over but i didnt think it was shot

whatever never again! thats something i dont wanna relieve

i dunno some guy that works done there told me he wanted the shell i could have the motor i told him i didnt want any of it he said how much i said throw a price out i said i dont now , plans right now are either

a masively remove every part from it then sell it to a scrap yard

or

b hope someone wants a transam and is willing to pay me more than what i could part it out for

either way the girl is not gonna stay around here!

u think the ta is worth 2 grand i dont know what to ask for it

i have a guy offering me 1000 for the body and i get everything else

i really dont feel like having the motor sit at my house for awhile, i dont know what these little boogers are worth

the lt4 kit was over 700 , if i could get half of what its worth, then odds and ends for pulley and wires and stuff , i am wondering if anyone needs a rebuilt six speed that shifts fine wonder what thats worth

i figure if this guy gives me a grand

i get 350 out of the cam kit (it comes with a cam , springs, retainers, 1.6 rockerss)

50 for the udp and aftermarket sparkplug wires

300 for a rebuilt tranny sounds fair i think

50 for the driveshaft

50 for a new fender i have for the car thats already primered looks like

then 200 would have to come somewhere from the little motor stuff

that way i would only lose a little over two grand on the car, which sounds bad but the money bind i am in sounds good haha

if the blocks still good , i figure its gotta be worth atleast one hundred

then its got edelbrock headers and full exhaust which gotta be worth i think 50

then intake manifold and other crap and pistons rods etc and crank have to atleast bring 50

i guess its one of those life lessons my grandma told me about hahahhahahhahaha

i dont know nothing though , but i think two grand is fair

edit its also a t-top with keyless entry that works

i say run it in the impact for $2500 OBO- let me know- i might be able to sneak it in for freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

pooker

what trans is it? when was it rebuilt and by whom/

pooker
12-03-2007, 09:01 PM
its a 95 trans am t-top six speed

it was rebuilt by the previous owner, me and another person pulled the motor and tranny, to freshen it up and put a cam etc in it. i took pics (obviously to prove the motor was out) . you could tell the motor didnt have very many miles in it, it still had a new crosshatch pattern in it, and a ridge reamer was not even needed if we were to remove the pistons.

the heads where shaved .020 over by napa (they were already cut .010 I had them cut again just to make sure we didnt have any more headgasket problems).

the rest of the motor was assembled by us , the transmission was rebuilt when we got it but reverse was broken so I paid someone to fix the reverse gear and open it up. it still looks new, obviously new engine paint burns off prety quick but this hasnt, you can still see the shiny core plugs sparkle :kekeke:

The car always drove and cranked , water had gotten in the motor from when it rained and I went through like 80 bucks of oil trying to get it out, so I said screw it and let it sit up (oil and water separate when left out).

so fast forward, all the water comes out , go to turn it over and starter is in a million pieces.

Replace starter and nothing, jump it and the engine tries and does kick over once , but when it is not jumped off it does nothing. So to me that said an electrical problem , (which is where I pass it onto a professional) now this is where I am , he tells me the motor is locked up and there is rust atop piston

Which like i said before i find hard to believe because last week i turned the motor over, it was hard to but it did, and there was compression in the cylinders, obviously you can hear it when the valves open.

so thats where i am, dumbfounded, and the guy told me to sell it or put a new motor in and then the same guy that works there now wants to buy it. so thats where it stands, noone likes working on lt1's and i dont i can make a dsm run with only one piston sarcastically speaking of cours, and this little booger just gives me problems

i dont have money to invest in it anymore and neither want to or care to, i dont feel like taking my time to completely understand a lt1 engine and the wiring of it

Get a second opinion. I think that guy is trying to screw you. It does indeed sound like an electrical issue.

Yes if you had water in it, and you let it sit out too long, when the water and oil separate, the water goes to the top, and will rust things. But it takes some time to do.

You probably should have changed the oil one or two more times just to be safe. I know its expensive, but thats when you have to do when water gets in there. In my buddy's 4 wheeler he turned it over in some water. We drained the oil, poured in new oil, crank for 5 seconds, drain, fill, crank, drain, repeated this for about 8 full changes till the last drain the oil came out looking new. Then we just poured 3 new quarts in, and off we went.

i say get an impact on the bottom end and turn the piss out the motor to loosen it- it sounds like maybe a little rust buildup on the top of the cylinders is holding it up-

as for the electrical issue- you may just need to replace the starter- you could have gotten a defective starter-

i dont have anymore money though thats the thing .....

i got told to move my car or it was going to the dump so i paid a 150 dollar tow fee

then this guy came to me and told me he could get it towed for next to nothing and bill me at the end of the period, and he said he could fix it so i dont now how much he wants

unless someones willing to tow it for free i really have no option and the guy seemed kind of anal about me keeping it there ,

plus i just found out i have to spend over one hundred dollars on a book for class

this is one of those things where i know i am gona lose my but , but i can use the money way way way way more than i can a car right now

i wanna take my ccna by the end of december along with a+ which is 360 bucks as of right now so i would rather take a loss and invest this money in my education

plus noone touches these things atleast not where i live, he was the only one i kept telling myself that for the longest time "only another xx dollars" but i would rather cut my losses right now then have negatives in my bank account

i wanna learn hahhahah

but thanks for the advice i hope whoever gets it next fixes it and its something easy because that would be super awesome to hear

i will rock a taurus for now :ballaclub: haha

i dont have an impact i thought about doing that, its so hard to turn it over by hand i bought get hemroids turning it over, but it does, at first i mean the four cylinder is prety easy to turn over i just thought this one was hard because it had over twice the displacement and twice the cylinders but the guy said it shouldnt be like that

i might see if that guy tomorrow will let me get one on there, but there is no room for an impact to get in there its like max six inches and a impact is longer than that with a socket on

edit - update on dizzy i removed the hood as soon as i came home from school, there is no front bumper or cross member (took it off to put the engine in) my granpapa has the jack so just waiting to get that back so i can remove the axles then we are ready to roll we have a day planned saturday to tackle it !

Hi Pooker,
Three things here...
First I am not a mechanic by trade only by necessity.

Second- you may have already done these but Pull the spark plugs and spray some WD 40 or whatever choice of spray lube you have or want. Let it sit then repeat 20 thirty minutes apart. Then with the plugs still out hook up some jumper cables from someone that has a heavy battery to give you some extra cranking amperage... OOPS... Find the fuse for the fuel pump and pull it... Nothing better than raw gas and sparks flying everywhere...

Third- If I read correctly you have a standard transmission? IF so do all the above and just pull it around for a bit with the plugs out of course...
Odds are I did not read correctly or surely you wold have tried this already...
Sorry bout the motor laying down on you... But sounds like a good time os going to be had by all anyway...
Good luck... Life is/will be good!:smt023
