Who's to blame is pointless now. You are the sorry-a$$ed Commissioner, Bud Selig, the owners' best friend. What action do you take to clean up the sport?

If I was commissioner? I would make drug testing mandatory. First offense you receive a warning and hefty fine, second offense you get kicked out.

I'd make the tests random and mandatory. I heard they did "announced" tests before. Whoever came up with that idea needs to be fired, IMO

It saddens me to think that so many of baseball's records are held or will be held by guys who used performance-enhancing drugs.

You can't allow them to keep their ill-gotten gains because if you do then others will try to figure out a way around getting caught.

Well, you can't really punish a player who's never tested positive. It's basically one man's word against another. What's happened in the past is just that.....in the past. It's time to initiate a drug testing program similar to the NFL.

Yeah...it's hard to punish a player for breaking a rule when there was no rule to be broken.....The commissioner needs to take some power back from the MLBPA.....Donald Fehr runs things in baseball, which is why the MLB is in this situation....

The knock against steroids is that it creates an imbalance in the playing field....however, when so many of the players are juicing, it seems pretty even....

I'd fine all of the owners and the players and donate the money to charity.

As I understand it, there is mandatory, random drug testing in MLB. Problem is it's the Players Union that warns the players it's coming. That and they only pee in a cup. The new Performance enhancing drugs can't be detected like that. They require a blood test, which the Players union forbids. I'm for severe penalties, but money talks and the players will walk. If I were Bud, I'd roll back the clock on both home run records, (season and life time). Otherwise if they get rid of PED's no body will ever break those records. I'd ban the players from baseball and the HOF. You don't let them off because you don't catch them all. You punish those you catch. Those named are guilty. Nobody has an axe to grind. We know McGuire, Clemmons, Sosa, Bonds, Giambi and Giambi et. al. are juicing. I'd demand blood tests from here on out and fine owners heavily who don't field a team in 08. I'd break the union. It's like most unions.......corrupt. If they don't take punitive action, baseball is dead.

It's all about the money. But to me it's the worse form of cheating. Make them take drug tests, any kind that can trace these things, before every game. Jockeys have to test, horses have to test, but these major players in baseball and football get away with this type of behavior and don't face any consequences. If they are found to break the rules, throw them out. Then the playing field is even and the truly talented players get the recognition they deserve.

I'm very interested to see how The Selig handles this. He's been a laughable commissioner so far. Let's see if he wants to save his cash cow, or take his profits and run. For those who don't follow baseball, Bud Selig was/is a team owner. Never happened before, but that's like putting the fox in the hen house. Commissioners should be totally neutral and make decision in the best interest of baseball regardless. He's leaned toward the owners more often than not and yet has shown little backbone when facing the players union. So, baseball has it's problems. It's owners vs players.

I'm not sure what he should do, but I don't think that baseball can afford to back down. It's weathered a few storms, but with the state of sports in general being rather sad, someone's got to break out the apple and shine it up a little.

You're absolutely correct, fuzzis. But the weight of the almighty dollar tends to erode the backbone in a lot of people. If Selig backs down at all, baseball is in trouble. I'm just proud that I haven't seen a current Atanta Brave on the team of cheaters. I love my Braves but I have questions about Larry "Chipper" Jones. He doesn't appear to be beefed up but Pettite didn't either. Jones has tremendous power for his build, but I'd have to stop short of accusing him as readily as I did Bonds, McGuire, Sosa, the Giambi brothers. They are obvious. Bonds didn't weigh 175 lbs with rocks in both pockets a few years ago.
