I think it should be a law that everybody had a gun and knew how to use it. Crime rates would drop dramatically.
If you have a permit to carry a concealed weapon then you ought to be able to carry just about everywhere. I still think there a few places where it should be restricted. Bars, aircraft...

If a few honest citizens on the flights that hit the trade towers had had a gun, those box cutter wielding towel heads wouldn't have had a chance.

...and those box cutter wielding towel heads would have had much more than box cutters.

I agree. My issue with guns on airplane I think have more to do with my fear of flying than anything else. I'm not sure what my direct reason for not wanting guns on planes. It just doesnt sit well in my stomach and I don't know why.
I do think pilots should be armed though.

The intimidation leverage that the criminals have would cease to exist if this were the case. But, wouldn't it also be fair to state that shooting deaths could also increase dramatically?

If you're killing the right folks, that's not necessarily a bad thing.
But, wouldn't it also be fair to state that shooting deaths could also increase dramatically?Uh....no. The people that are going to shoot someone with a gun already have one or can get one. Just because law abiding citizens have guns doesn't mean they are going to shoot somebody with it.

I own maybe a couple of dozen guns, and Ted Kennedy's killed more people with his car than I have with all my guns combined.

I agree with the author. So called "Gun-Free" zones work great...just ask the families of all of the students killed at Viriginia Tech. That was a "gun-free" zone, along with Columbine and countless other gun-free zones where gun control is enforced and large numbers of innocent people have been killed by someone not obeying gun control laws or rules. Unarmed people are easy targets. When's the last time you heard of one of these nutjobs going in a gun range or shooting club and opening fire on random people? Point made.

I remember some talking head on CNN-MSNBC-FOXNEWS (whatever) speaking on the Washington snipers several years ago. He pointed out that these nutjobs weren't shooting people in Mississippi; people there would shoot back.

"When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."
Not sure who said that, but whoever it was is a freakin' genius! The truth couldn't be more simply stated.

Remember the school shooting at Pearl? Thank heavens someone on campus, I think it was a faculty member, had a gun in his car in the "drug-free, gun-free" school zone and was able to bring the guy down. There's no telling how many lives he saved. They never prosecuted him here in Mississippi by the way. I heard that they got around the gun free thing because he was a member of the national guard. I can just imagine if that happened in New York or California...they would probably have gone after the fellow that stopped the violence.:smt102

People kill people. Guns and other weapons are just tools.
