I arrived home about an hour ago. The trip back up north was---eventful...(more about this later).
I came home to find my son's "crowning moment" gift--(the one he was dreaming of--but barely considered a possibility this year)--sitting at the door of our apartment building--CONTENTS CLEARLY MARKED!!!!!!!
We have an office and they are NOT supposed to leave things like that SIT at someone's doorway waiting to be stolen--OR WORSE--discovered before the magic moment has arrived!!!!!!!
I know there are some who will tell me to chill out--that there are a LOT worse things that can happen at Christmas...
:smt013*&^%%$$#@#@!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't judge a mamma till you've walked a mile in her stilettos...
...Its all about presentation! THAT was my &^%$#$#@@!!!!!-ing center piece! The only thing that will top it now is if my sweet little boy gets to pull his brand new electric guitar that I saved and scrimped for (thank you very much) from the ass of the nimrod that left it on our doorstep...
....and that's just the surprise I'm planning---so look out mister delivery guy....mamma's got a plan for your life...:smt025

Somewhere, someway, some idiot is always going to screw up something like this. Did the lil man spot it, or are you pissed due in large part to the fact that he could have seen it and thus spoiled the surprise?

He saw it first!!!!
I tried to play it off like it was for the wrong address. but he turned around and said "thanks for the guitar mom!"
I'm probably twice the "bad mom" cause I know he is excited about it---but we are trying to pretend it doesn't exist right now.
If the amplifyer that was supposed to come with it (they just better hope its not stolen) were here too--I would probably just let him open it...
BUTS ITS NOT DANGIT!
So I'll have to think of something cool to do to make the moment amazing on Christmas morning...
...I'm a sucker for "moments"
......they are, afterall, the stuff of life...

A few years ago there were kids scouring the neighborhood following the mailman and taking all the Christmas cards because they knew someone's grandparents or others were sending cash for the holidays... Chi Chi you have every right to be upset... Sadly the policy seems to be if it is stolen we will eventually replace it otherwise "look out I have a package people!!!"

Ok, there are always folks out there that are trying to convince kids that Santa is not real...if not this year, then the next year. Let's put our thinking caps on and come up with a reason why exactly what your baby wanted was left on the doorsteps a few days before Santa is due to come...

If it makes you feel any better, my grandmother let me ride my new Big Wheel home from Walmart or Freds or whever we got it from, then she hid it from me until Xmas. I wasn't exactly amused, especially since I knew where it was.

Yeah...I know...
I keep thinking of my friends in the Dominican Republic who are overjoyed to have a Pig's head to eat on Christmas/three king's day...
They just had yet another tropical storm that killed a lot of people and destroyed so many homes...(homes there are not like our homes...)...
I am ridiculously, outragiously-half drowning in grace...
I KNOW...
I feel guilty for my own self pitty...
and then there is this poor delivery guy--who no doubt takes crap every day....and is busting his butt....
...but I am a sucker for those moments.
....We only get "so many" of those "knock your socks off-remember it forever" kind of moments....
...THIS was going to be one.
and believe me, we were due for one.

Sorry about your kiddos present Chichiguita. Maybe you can tell him Santa got sick with the flu and so he had his elfs out delivering gifts early, so parents could help Santa out.

I just KNOW you are a beautiful woman!
How can we turn this around?
..........there has to be a way to make this cool...I can't go out and "buy" something to "top" the moment...
It's not exactly about the "stuff"...
He was telling someone the other day about the way everything is "set up" (like I said, I'm big on presentation--I always blow up a bunch of balloons, so it "looks" like there is more than there is...I also use silly string fights, scavanger hunts and various other "ploys" to make sure each year is a little different)...
He used to come get in bed with us, then we made him wait at the top of the stairs while I lit candles all through the house, turned on the music, set up the camera....and Grandma had to drive over....
....everything is VERY...
different
this year....
...we DID get a set of walky-talkies this year (the upnorth christmas was Saturday)....he was saying
"now I can "walky-talky" mom so she can get everything ready!"
It's got to be about the memory--NOT the "stuff" or the "circumstances"...

Think about it as a fun event...Now how can I convince him that Santa is still real? I know that I convinced my daughter when she was in fourth grade that the red light we saw in the sky was Rudolph's nose....it still makes for good memories. I have a grandster in third grade that still believes in Santa, but we have had to come up with some great stories to keep him believing. Kids really want to believe, and believe it or not, I still kind of believe in Santa...

I think one of my babies and grandbabies is going through some of the same things you are going through. It really hurts. Everybody. The hard part is figuring out how to make the best of it without hurting the little ones...

...Ummmmm...first--the above post was not meant exactly the way it sounded....
second...Chichiguita is a nickname given to me by a group of shoeshine boys from the Dominican Republic. The adults who heard them calling me this and felt it was fitting---every Dominican has at least one nick name...
Chichigua means "kite" in spanish.
they call me chichiguita because I am always flying around and my feet never seem to touch the ground...I think that is their way of saying that I am a "free spirit"...
...and THAT I am...

EXACTLY
We all face "adversity" of one kind or another.
I WISH it wasn't true...but it is.
How can I make this moment---a moment you will still cherish--and not want to forget?
I didn't watch the movie--I'm really sensitive to sad movies etc (go figure)...but the movie "Life Is Beautiful" (or the ideals behind it...) is an inspiration to me these days.

Well, it could just as easily have been something from Harry & David that clearly says, KEEP REFRIGERATED. And you have to wade through the neighborhood cats to see what's left of that $99 smoked turkey. ;)

Just be glad the package got delivered to the right home. You could have a situation where the delivery company is showing the package as delivered, but its not at your house and you have to wait for them to finish tracking it down, only to discover that it's gone and you really don't have it at all. Look on the bright side, it could be much, much worse.
