Rock 104 is saying there should be some pretty major storms hitting us today.
100% chance of rain.

There's a lot of red in that picture. I've got a splitting headache that's not responding well to meds... I think this is going to be a fun storm.

It's kicking up good here in Marion County. Weather alerts keep chiming in and we are all under a Tornado Watch until 4:00 p.m. Think I'll cancel that cubscout party scheduled for tonight. Be right back.

I love storms--(but I was a long way from Katrina...).

I had my patio doors flung open and the salsa/merengue music blaring.

Was working in the kitchen (getting my Dominican feast started)-so when I came into the living room and it was coming down in sheets I was surprised.

:smt103

Anybody got an ark?

its quieting down over here now...

...this reminds me--most people don't have basements down here (do they?)--Where do you go in case of tornado?

I don't know what is wrong with me. I am a very brave person, but bad weather scares the crap out of me, it always has. Thank God it has lightened up some because I'm about to have a breakdown. Oh no, I spoke too soon....:ohnoes:

An interior room. I usually go in the hallway- just make sure there's more than one wall between you and the outside. And preferably no windows.

I moved from MI and had the same question! My b/f visited my family in IL and was so excited to see a basement for the first time! He's a dork

Wow, for a few minutes there it was beginning to really get into it, then it just died off. I don't mind bad weather, but it seems like everytime it blows through something of mine gets fried. Does someone smarter than me (which is near about everyone :)!) know if I should turn my computer off during this storm, or will I be safe continuing to use it?

IGID

You should definitely have it plugged into a surge protector. Some even have plug ins for your cable or DSL line.

HubDoc
12-20-2007, 10:56 AM
Ok thanks, IGID! I have a surge protector (it's ancient, but I guess it still works!) on all of my computers, so I guess I'll be ok there. Oh man, I wish I had one for my Comcast internet line! Every time a storm comes through, it gets struck or something and then it's down for two weeks because Comcast won't come out and fix it. I might just have to go out and find me one of those today! Thanks for the suggestion!

Surge protectors aren't really what they're made out to be. We had electrical issues a few weeks back...having things on surge protectors didn't help a bit.

Hey HubDoc,
I used to take care of 75 computers and we all had the surge protectors on them. But we still had them go down on occasion due to lightning... Whenever it gets bad I shut mine down and unplug it from everything... If lightning does hit solidly it will not stop at the surge protector...

Lightning hit my house a few months back and it fried my modem and my computer that were both on a surge protector, along with my coils in my air tranfer unit of my heat pump, my garage door opener sensors, receiver, and a few other things.

A buddy of mine here at work just told me a tornado touched down off of highway 29 here in Ellisville and destroyed a few homes. I just checked WDAM's website but there's no information.
Can anybody confirm this?

I was on 59 when we had the deludge.....Had to drive about 30 all the way from the 98 entrance to the Gandy Parkway. The wind kind of blew me around some and there were some cars pulled over. I've been told it's safer to keep going as long as you are going about the same speed of the rest of the traffic rather than pulling over and chancing getting hit.

I saw a mocking bird flying backward down the street. The wind was just blowing him by like a piece of trash. Hope he's okay.

Definitely nto fun out on the roads. I've been out in it all morning. Even had to call No Halo because I saw a car that had wreck off in the ditches on the exit ramp off I59 to go E on 98 towards Mobile. I didn't have time to stop by the time I noticed... someone else had stopped though. No Halo said he'd make sure someone got out there. Thanks No Halo!!! And I sure hope the person was okay that wrecked... it didn't look super bad... I've definitely seen worse.

Is it going to stop anytime soon? The dog's bladder is about to erupt but he is refusing to do anything in this rain. If I catch him lifting his leg anywhere in the house we'll have doggieroast for dinner.

I heard the same in the barbershop a few minutes ago from a guy who drove through that area on his way to the barbershop.
He also said part of 29 is closed for a short while due to a couple of downed trees.

Gosh I hate that for you, that's a bunch of important stuff. The last time we got hit we lost a computer, 2 t.v.s, a microwave, a playstation, and our Comcast internet thing. Of course the worst one out of all it was the internet and it took Comcast 2 weeks to get out there to fix it. That was a rough 2 weeks. :ohnoes:
