The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning (http://news.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080102/NEWS18/80102050&theme=WINTERWEATHER) for the Lake Tahoe region! I lived there for almost 15 years, and I can't remember a blizzard warning.

The Sner sent an email and said they were supposed to get some "weather" starting Thursday night and that I was supposed to think good thoughts that the roads would be closed by the time she had to go out Friday. Pulling triples through the mountains in the snow does not sound like my idea of fun.

That figures. Just when I am about to visit. Ya'll can blame it on me. I was up in WI when 15 inches of snow fell. I come back to KY and the temperatures dropped and this morning, there was an inch of snow on the ground, LOL. (It all melted by noon, though. But its still cold. Like 10 degrees tonight. Brrr.)

We skied in Tahoe and ate several times in Truckee. I thought that was close to the Donner Party incident. That always freaked me out. I also thought it was funny that they had a big history lesson through pictures in the McDonalds. :smt118

I could tell you more about the Donner Party than you ever want to know. :smt118 We did a "unit" with our seventh graders and marched them to every place in the Truckee Meadows that the Donner Party stopped, then we headed up the mountain, winding up at Donner Lake, where if children had a signed release from their parents, they were allowed to join the Pine Middle School Polar Bear Club. (Did I mention our field trip was in April? Many, many times there was still snow on the ground)

Way off topic but I've tried several times to replicate my favorite dish from OB's in Truckee. I still dream of that brie wrapped in phillo that was served with fresh granny smith apples.

Baked Brie Cheese
Herbed Brie baked in pastry with roasted
garlic, fresh apples and toast rounds...............................10.95

OB's. We stopped there coming back from a professional development in Sacramento. I was with my Momma Rocha, this fireball little Honduran woman who'd been teaching forever and was the reason I survived my first year.

Yeah, there might have been some dancing on the bar.

Because you are trying to comfort yourself from the cold weather we are having.
I keep getting Spiced Tea and I HATE Spiced Tea.

I'm guessing spiced tea is not NEARLY as fattening as a huge hunk of brie cheese. Maybe I'll fix a frou frou coffee. That's warm.

I'm about to get up and make some hot chocolate with a little something-something in it.

I wish there was a boy here to snuggle with. As is, I'm going to have to put the pupper in bed with me tonight. She's already shivering.

I take a blizzard over a hurricane any day! We were stuck in "the blizzard of '97" in Colorado and had a great time. Ample warning was given so we could all stock up on food, candles, drinks etc. and then we spent two days in a warm, cozy house while around us the world turned into a wintry wonder land.

Can you put orange liqueur into hot chocolate? That's the only thing "extra" I have, and the Amplified Hot Chocolate sounds good.
