What's about to be developed at the SE corner of Hwy 98 and 589?

Who's going to drop their 2nd/3rd grader off for the first time at the new OG school? (remember to enter through Bellegrass)

When's Hancock Bank going to open their branch on Hwy 98? The sign announcing their construction is almost rotten.

If behind a gravel truck with a sign saying "Stay back 100 feet. Not responsible for broken windshields," does that mean they pay 3X the road taxes, since they are taking up that much roadway? (Can't I collect anyway?)

How long can a dead deer lay on the road side before it's too late to take him home to gut and eat him? Has this been a good deer season?

Where does one take post-season Christmas trees if living in OG? Will the usually-reliable Lamar County gang pick them up?

How many of you now have a Fedora at home?

i know you can take your christmas tree to firestation 8 and drop it off there and the city will pick it up and mulch it. Or at least thats what they said on the news a few nights ago

Mike, about the only one of your questions I can attempt to answer is the one about the gravel truck.

I have been in court under many judges with my job and I have seen numerous people try to get reimbursement for broken windshields. I have never seen a judge rule in favor of the victim. Every judge I have seen always tells them that is considered a "road hazzard" and tells them IF they got a cracked windshield that they were probably following too close behind. I do not necessarily agree with that theory but hey, it is not up to me...just telling you what I have seen. The trucks ARE suppose to be tarped but most I have seen are not...especially in P.R. Cnty!

I bought my car in 99 and only had the car two months when I got a big ding in the windshield. I was in the right lane of I59 northbound when a gravel truck passed me and a rock either blew off his truck or was kicked up by his truck leaving a ding right in the middle of the glass...p.o.'ed me to no end. I feel your pain.

Oh, I think the taxes trucks pay are alot higher than personal vehicles, it goes by weight of vehicle and age or so I was told by a tax accessor a few years ago.

As to what is going in on the corner of 589 and 98, I've heard it was to be a site for a bank. But Butterball is telling me that there has been additional gossip that it could be a Walgreens or Walmart. Gee, I really hope it is not a Walmart.

I do not plan on dropping MY 3rd grader off - why endure that aggravation and I live basically next door.

Forget trying to go after gravel companies, your SOL.

No Fedora here.

And according to my ex (who is from Louisiana) you can pick up a deer on the side of the road within 24 hours of its death. :smt118

From today's HA (http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080106/NEWS01/801060303):

DCM is developing a professional office complex at the intersection of U.S. 98 and Mississippi 589. The complex will cover approximately 7 acres and could possibly include another 9 acres in future development. Craig Flanagan of Flanagan Construction is involved in the development.
