Facing a double-digit defeat in New Hampshire, a sudden collapse in national polls and an expected fund-raising drought, Senator Hillary Clinton is preparing for a tough decision: Does she get out of the race? And when?!
"She can't take multiple double-digit losses in New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada," laments one top campaign insider to the DRUDGE REPORT. "If she gets too badly embarrassed, it will really harm her. She doesn't want the Clinton brand to be damaged with back-to-back-to-back defeats."
Meanwhile, Democrat hopeful John Edwards has confided to senior staff that he is staying in the race because Hillary "could soon be out."
"Her money is going to dry up," Edwards confided, a top source said Monday morning.

Key players in Clinton's inner circle are said to be split. James Carville is urging her to fight it out through at least February and Super Tuesday, where she has a shot at thwarting Barack Obama in a big state. But others close to the former first lady now see no possible road to victory, sources claim.
Developing...
[The dramatic reversal of fortunes has left the media establishment stunned and racing to keep up with fast-moving changes.
In its final poll before Iowa, CNN showed Clinton with a two-point lead over Obama. Editorial decisions were being made based on an understanding the Democratic primary race would be close, explained a network executive.]
Wow. I can't say that I haven't seen this coming. She's not out yet, but we can't have a Clinton staining the family name, now can we?

I've said all along that it's too soon for her to be in this race. Perhaps the next cycle, but not this one.

She's not electable.
It's like someone said last night, she's trying to take credit for things that her husband did in office and saying that being first lady is like being president. America isn't stupid. They know it's not even close.
Hillary is establishment. People don't want establishment. They want change.

We have differing definitions of establishment it appears. My definition involves global establishments.

My definition is regarding people and the time they've spent in Washington DC. You can't stay there without playing the game.

All of what her husband did in office? ;)

Regardless of tomorrow, Hillary I belive will stay in the race until at leat the Feb 5 "Super Duper" Primaries. However, there is no question her odds will be even more difficult. If Hillary can't beat Obama in two states that are 95 percent white (Iowa and New Hampshire) how is she going to beat him in states like South Carolina or other southern states on Super Tuesday where black voters make up 30, 40 or 50 percent of the Democratic primary vote? I suspect we may see a huge minority primary turnout in these states -- particulary, now that it is been proven that Obama has a real shot at winning the nomination.

You're right on the minority turn out. Anyone who thinks it's the slightest bit racist should be a fly on the wall around some of the working class blacks in MS. They want to vote for 'what's his name' because he's black. They also think that it'll never happen and someone will kill him before he's elected. That's coming from things I've heard people talking about.

I don't think Barak Hussain Obama can win either. The radical left wing of the Democrat party has come through for the Republicans again. This man is far far left. Plus, I still don't trust the influence of his formative years.

I think the fact that he's willing to talk about them and has no 'secrets' (yet), is refreshing.

Obama is "far far left"? Where would Kucinich be on your scale? Having grown up with a different system and political parties, I find most US democrats to be rather in-the-middle and most republicans extremely to the right.

Short of Kookovich, Obama is the furthest left of the Democratic candidates as far as I can tell. Opposing the ban on partial birth abortion, opposing the Iraq war at the outset, are but two examples.
He's running this glitzy campaign on the theme of "change" simply to cover this up. But, Mike Huckabee is right in saying that we as Republicans must give the American people something to be for, rather than just something to be against, or we will lose this election, and a lot of core issues with it.

Dale, do you think Huckabee will get the Republican nomination?
IMO, he is too far right for moderates, and if the choice is between Huckabee and Obama, my guess is many mods will vote for Obama.
As for Hillary waiting for the next cycle to run, perhaps she should have done that, but given there was no incumbent running in 2008, this might be her best shot.

You didn't axt me, but I think Romney is the Rep. candidate, the Middle Easterner is the Dem candidate and Romney is the next President.

Here's what'll happen:
It's a race between Huckabee and Romney. Romney will get the nod due to Huckabee's record in Arkansas, but slightly because Huckabee's dripping with Evangelic, which makes some people who aren't Evangelical, but Republican, nervous.
Paul will run as a 3rd party, as may Bloomberg... either way, it doesn't matter because they're mostly pulling votes away from the republican party on either end.
Clinton will wait until after Super Tue to bow out, and we'll hear talk of a 'Comeback Kid'... but it won't happen. Edwards and Obama will grab differing delegates. It will be a tight race. Edwards will take the VP slot behind Obama.
Since the repub vote will be split, guess who wins? Obama. I think it'll be with just over 35% of the popular vote.
It's gonna be a fun, fun year.
