Frankly, I am getting tired of hearing Dr. Phil's name all the time. Period.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Dr. Phil's public brand of tough love sometimes makes him tough to love, particularly among mental health professionals who are accusing television's self-help guru of making an uncalled-for house call on Britney Spears this week.

Although Dr. Phil -- whose full name is Phillip McGraw -- announced Monday that he is shelving plans for a show on Spears' latest breakdown, some in the mental health community say just showing up at her hospital room last week was going too far.

"It's true people sometimes need to be placed under involuntary mental health treatment because they can't take care of themselves," veteran psychiatrist Dr. Jeffrey Sugar said of the 26-year-old Spears. "But there's a difference between being detained involuntarily for psychological treatment and being forced to endure Dr. Phil involuntarily."

Me three....he does seem kinda full of himself the few times I have heard about him. I don't get to watch those daytime shows...I too busy at work on MH and trying to get a little done around my office.

:bs:

(I know that is what he said. But I think he is full of himself).

In the beginning, I would have agreed, but then I just think with the entire mess that is Britney Spears, why would anyone offer to help when they will most likely fail? Dr. Phil does not need the press, he has his own show.

He better be getting up everyday and kissing Oprahs feet and cooking her breakfast.

I had not heard he had done this. But it does seem quite presumptuous.

I can't figure out why anyone would go on his show. Nothing like being treated like an idiot in front of millions.

Is he even a 'Doctor" of anything other than stupid quirks and asinine ramblings?

I don't know the whole story. I think if anyone can help Britney, I wish them well.

I am not sure Britney really wants help if it means giving up attention.

I get tired of Dr. Phil as well. I also know there is an audience that he reaches and benefit from his style and strategies. I have a cousin that has used some of the strategies and it helped.

So, each to their own.

There's something about his voice that just gets under my skin like millions of pissed off fire ants. I can't stand it. Or him. He's so....what's the word....fake, perhaps?

Anybody stupid enough to go on his show probably deserves what ever kind of stupid things he dreams up.

IMO, he's like Paris Hilton - famous because he's famous.

With the Britney event, he's coming across as an opportunistic ambulance chaser.

Apparently, Britney's family thinks Dr. Phil went to far (http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20170122,00.html). Good for them.

A person with bipolar disorder has a difficult time making the distinction between what is considered appropriate and inappropriate behavior. Hopefully, she has not gone too far and can get the treatment she needs. This is not a "headline" or a "hot story" for her and her family. Mental illness can be devastating to a family.

I'm aware of this and I am making the same assumption. I do not think for one minute that she is just being "bratty". We will never actually see the documented results of a psych eval or subsequent diagnosis anyway.

Sure, but I have little doubt if she were diagnosed manic, she would quickly make it public because she has a DIRE NEED to explain all the crap she's been doing lately.

I respect your opinion, but I think you are wrong! Because of the stigma attached to mental illness I think she would use drug/alcohol addiction as the excuse, go to rehab (once again) and tell everyone her life is back on track. Her behavior recently certainly seems like that of someone in the manic stage of bipolar. You are right though, it is just assumptions at this point.

So you think people would rather use drug addiction instead of mental illness to explain their behavior? Drug addiction means you're weak and can't control your habits. Mental illness is at least something that happens not for any reason you can control.
All we can do is wait and see. She might end up dead before anything is revealed.

I'm going to guess Dr. Phil didn't go as far as the photographer she just ran off with.

As I heard it on The O'Reilly Factor tonight, he was "allowed access to her" but the family went nuts when he held a press conference they knew nothing about. Yeah, he went too far.

Dr Phil is getting dumber and dumber every year. He has gotten so stuck on himself he has forgotten a common rule the patient’s right to privacy and confidentiality.

This Oopsie! may just cost him some moo la!

You are of course referring to HIPAA I am sure... Something like $25,000 per incident... Of course... Unless he got the family and her to sign a waiver in all the paperwork I am sure he has on the ready...

Yes but with him being a healthcare provider he knew better and now has left himself wide open to lawsuits which would be easily won... If they didn't sign their rights away that is....
