NEW YORK (AP) -- Taylor Hicks might have won "American Idol," but he doesn't have his record deal anymore.
The soul singer, who claimed the "Idol" title in 2006, has apparently been dropped by J Records, a label within Sony-BMG, which signs the show's singers.
"Taylor is going to record on his own for the next album," said J Records publicist Liz Morentin, who did not give further details regarding Hicks.
Another "Idol" winner -- Ruben Studdard of season two -- left his contract with J Records late last year, but continues his contract with 19 Entertainment, the company managed by "Idol" creator Simon Fuller.

I love Taylor Hicks' voice. I liked a few of his songs on his albums.
I think they're showing that winning AI doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to be a successful recording artist.

Wow. I never heard much from him after Idol. He did a brilliant rendition of "Something" by the Beatles. It is a shame cause the dude could sing. McPhee was hot too!

He's got a good voice, but his music style isn't mainstream, so he isn't going to make as much money.

My boyfriend and his sister went to a Mardi-Gras Ball last year with someone who had extra tickets and were mesmerized by his stage presence, performance and voice. They stood and watched him. My boyfriend is not one to brag on things outside of sports and Taylor earned his admiration.
My boyfriend was blown away by an X factor Taylor has and the sister has always liked him.

IBB and myself went to see him in concert in Birmingham last March (2007). He was good and I love his music, but it wasn't like other exciting concerts I have been to. It was also a little short. I hope he comes out with another album.

I saw him back in November when he played at the Silver Star. He was good! Enjoyed the show and he is a good entertainer. Very energetic. I do agree with Virgo though, the show lasted about an hour.

I'll admit it, I had a bit of a crush on Taylor Hicks (just don't tell my hubby). I enjoyed his style, but (unfortunately for him, I suppose) it wasn't something I was going to listen to in my day-to-day life. I never got around to buying/downloading any of it.

I heard that too. I cheered him on AI because he was the underdog from the beginning, especially in Simon's eyes.
Hey, new season starts next Tuesday...Are MH'ers fans of AI?

His album was so much better then Katherine McPhee's album (she had a song about open toed shoes or sandles or some crap on hers) but since she's the young pretty pop-singer and he's not, hers was more successful. I still have his CD in my music folder on this machine, hers was removed immediately after listening to it.
