Scarlett, how about the kiddies going to after school? Did they make their vans on time, or did they have to wait. Planet Gym's number has been busy and I'm getting to the worry stage.

All car riders left at the normal time...............only bus riders were later.......Sorry I'm late posting........things were really hetic

WDAM just said the kids from OG Middle School and High School were still at the school waiting for this to pass. I texted my nephew and he said the middle school kids are at the high school with the high school kids and that they are still there. Poor kids. My daughter, whom I went and checked out needs to scrub my house with a toothbrush for me going to get her around 2:30. She has had a nice long nap...At least they have had the kids off the roads and not on busses during this storm.

Get to a safe location. Can ya get under a desk or something, if the need arose....

from the sound of it, the need might already be present.

Tornado spotted near Columbia... not a doppler indicated tornado. It has TOUCHED DOWN!!!
ANyone in that area, get to SAFETY, NOW!!!!!

Praying for your safety NOW!!!

And now, you can pray for my profanity, please.

I'm outa here....

She was "outta [there]."

I was on the phone with her when the golf-balled size hail was failling, she feared a concussion on the 20-yard sprint to a concrete block building. "The hail is getting smaller," she said.

I told her there was a tornado on the ground, west/southwest. Then, 'GET OUT OF THERE, DO YOU HEAR ME??!! (expletives deleted) OUT !! (expletives deleted) !!! NOW !!"

Passing from us now. I ran next door to the gas station which is way more substantial than my office building. Starting to clear up a bit....watch out Lamar/Forrest - it's on its way to you. Get those cars in the garage or carport.

More substantial than . . .

Excuse me while I clear things up.

She is located in a sheet metal building that may or may not be, how shall I say - UP to code. I told her if she couldn't get to the block building to hit the ditch just beyond the office's sign. THAT might give her a chance, I said. She'd get in the car and outrun the tornado, if she saw one coming. Here, on this lovely, gentle website, I shall not go into the details of my subseqent comments.

Thank you, Lord. Jojobeans is praying for my .. lapses.

No reason. I just don't think I have heard that name before. What county is it in? There are at least two Mill Creeks in MS...one is in P.R. Cnty, another in Jones...or that maybe Wayne Cnty...

Hmmm, having to be a 'weather voyeur' from hundreds of miles away........seeing all the anxiety through the written word.........
it had to have been a miserable day:(.

It is exactly for these types of experiences that I hate my job....
those times when I really feel the extreme need to be with my
family and hold them all real tight :attack:

I'm so glad that everyone tried to help each other here and keep the
information flowing

Great Job !!! (even though it took me twenty minutes to go from the
start of the thread to the end)...............

Lips, you're welcome to be a Weather Chicken too! Although I'm actually safer where I am than I would be at home, I'd still rather be home. It's the process of getting there that's scary.

LipsofanAngel
01-31-2008, 01:21 PM
well, I don't feel safe in my work building... apartment building isn't the best bet either. My only hope would be to have enough time to get to my friends' house about 3 minutes away from my office.

yeah, I'm just a hop skip and a jump from there... so they wouldn't mind if I just showed up and made myself comfy?? haha or I could ask to be put in jail for the duration of the tornado if one were to head this way. Ya never hear of those gettin destroyed in storms!

Hermione

Listen, if it gets serious, just go over there. It's a public facility.

Looks like FUN!!!

I love a good storm.

I hope it doesn't wash my new driveway away... The city of Petal decided it was time to put in the new ditch and get rid of my moat, but they can't do anything until the gas lines are moved, but they decided to go ahead and remove my concrete driveway and put in a new culvert (same size as old) and cover it with clay/rock. It disappears a bit each rainstorm. I hope there's enough left for me to go to school tomorrow.

Butterball
01-31-2008, 01:53 PM
Ya know, the city is always good at picking the very "best" times to come dig around your property........... :smt103

Guess you'll have a mudhole to contend with till they get around to 'finishing' the job......... sorry :smt009

I feel terrible. The supervisor for our facility is in charge of Lamar and Marion county. She was spending the day at the Marion office. She told the clinician and case manager that they had no choice- that they had to go pick up the kids. She just called me in tears nearly... said the wind was so bad it kept blowing them off the road. They pulled over on 98.

I can't believe the supervisor made them do that. She should be ashamed of herself. I knwo, I know- money. It's a business. But times like this- it's just not worth the money. They may have a different opinion if the car wrecks and a kid is injured- or worse, and then they have a lawsuit on their hands.

Okay, I was off line for a while, cause the power went off at the shop & I unplugged everything, and went home. Power'll go off here soon (it always does), but both my laptop batteries are charged, so I got about four hours of power if I stay online constantly (why does a wireless connection burn so much juice?)
Everybody be safe.
If it doesn't get too cold I'm gonna watch the storm from the front porch. Nothin' I can do about it might as well enjoy!
