Anyone heard this? I heard it was the one here in Purvis but I'm unsure. There's tons of police, wreckers, etc on 589. My husband just called. They're detouring traffic wherever they are on 589. Not sure if that has anything to do with the robbery or maybe it was a wreck.

Radio said a crash happened....I know nothing of a robbery.

What kind of idiot would rob a bank during a tornado warning? Some people are pretty sad.

Perhaps thinking that all law enforcement officers might be tied up doing things in preparation for bad weather?
Driving back from Columbia, I passed several LCSO cars between 98 and 589 and saw one officer parked in the Belle Grass subdivision.

I don't know...I went to pick up my little girl a bit early today around 2:30. Someone called one of the ladies in the office and said the bank had been robbed. Could have been the robbers who had a wreck trying to get away from police.

They had to re-route traffic on 589 at wpa rd. or something for a bad crash with injuries.

Well, considering I have an even lower opinion of Hancock Bank than I do of Cellular South, all I can say is that I hope no one was seriously hurt.

Yes the Hancock in Purvis was robbered...and yes there was a serious crash on 589. I don't know if the two are related. I do know that the cornoner was called out to the crash.
My heart goes out to all involved.

From what i can gather the deputy was responding to purivs for the call and was involved in a major wreck where he was extracited from the vehicle with the jaws of life by pineridge fire dept. it took about 15 minutes to get him out of the vehicle.i am sure wdam will have some footage i saw them heading that way

Pray for all of those involved with the wreck. It was a bad situation on Hwy 589.
As far as the bank robbery in Purvis the suspect is in custody. Law Enforcement from LCSD and Purvis PD were on scene before he was able to leave.

On my way home I saw the LCSO vehicle on a tow-truck... gosh it was awful! Just saw on the news that he was in the hospital for possible broken bones. The driver of the other vehicle involved did not survive. His name has not been released.
And yes, the bank robbery was at the Hancock bank in Purvis....

WDAM has named the victim....
One person was killed and a Lamar County sheriff's deputy was injured when their cars collided head-on during the height of today's storm.
Authorities say David H. Siler of New Hebron was thrown from his vehicle. Sheriff's deputy Blake Thompson, who's been with the sheriff's department for about three years, was taken to Forrest General Hospital with possible broken bones.

He is doing OK. He is in ICU following some surgery last night. Keep him and his family in your prayers as he will likely have a lengthy recovery.

Thank you. Please keep us updated. I believe that I went to school with Blake. It was such a terrible accident and I am praying for him to get better.
