Today I made a quick stop at the McDonalds on Broadway Dr. next to Cloverleaf Mall. While at the counter placing my order I noticed one of the employees and his collection of tats. I know people have tattoos and its alot more accepted these days....but while Im trying to eat, I dont really care to see someone with a scorpian tattooed on their face (right below his left eye) and a big ole crucifix on his neck all the way up to his ear. I would think McD's would frown apon something like this. This guy had more tats than the inmate population of San Quentin.

When Checkers was owned by a company called Titan Holdings, we had a campaign called 'Get The Skank Out'... we were forbidden to hire anyone with blatantly visible tattoos who would be in view of the customers, ie, cashiers.

I just can't get a tattoo. First off, it is the whole...I don't do pain thing. And then I change my mind so often about things and it's not like you can say, "Ah, oops. I don't want this anymore."
While I was in Nassau my sister's sister-in-law got a tattoo. Of a frog. On her crotch. Everything about it was wrong. First of all, who gets a tat in a foreign country? Okay it's the Bahamas and not Bolivia, I know, but still...my confidence in their health regulations isn't real high, esp. after I saw what was in Anna Nicole's
fridge.
Secondly, it was a frog. A frog with angel wings. Giving a peace sign.
And they put it on her crotch, right next to her beaver.
I just sat in the corner and shook my head the entire time.
BTW Cb did they really call it "get the skank out"??

Well as a owner of two tattoos myself, its not that Im against them. But mine are on the inside of my forearms to where I can cover them up if need be. I just believe that hiring someone with their face and neck tattooed isnt the image a major company wants or needs to encourage. Nothing says "thug" like having a scorpion on ya face.

I can't make that up... that's what it was called.
They had one of those big poster sized post it note pads with the word 'Skank' under the big red circle slash sign.

Two girls:
One had a homemade tattoo between her eyes. I asked her about it, and she said she got it when she was drunk at a party.
One had the word 'B*tch' on the side of her neck pretty as could be.

Yeah I'm currently in my senior year in college and we had to go to a seminar and they kept stressing to us that if we got tattoos to make sure they are placed where they can be covered because a lot of companies look for tattoos/numerous piercings during the hiring process

You would think McD's would have more strict regulations on things like tattoos since there is such a heavy flow of traffic everyday...everyone from little kids to grown adults...but I guess it depends on the manager that hires you? Does anyone know who makes the decision that someone has too many tats to work at a particular place?

The hiring manager, and then every manager above them that tells them 'that' person can't work here looking like that.

Alot of business could careless. People are going to purchase whatever item they sell reguardless. McDonald's is a perfect example. Look how crappy their food is...the "quality" of it goes down with each day that passes but the ppl keep flocking in. Same with Walmart. They have no worries of losing customers. Lose 1 gain 100 more.

True. Also, many businesses have such a difficult time finding people who want to work, that they might have to hire anyone they can just to keep the business going. Unfortunately, some of them have to lower their standards. (Not saying that if you have tattoos you are not a good employee, because I know someone was going to jump on that.)

I'm actually one of the "1's" Md's has lost as a customer as far as the Petal McDonald's is concerned. I have an 11 year old daughter and I cannot take her there due to the innappropropriate behaviour of the entirely teenage staff (including the manager..he's like 20). I put up with it too many times.
On one occasion, my daughter and her younger cousin went into the playplace where the F-word was scribbled numerous times inside the playground equipment. I told one of the employees and he didn't bat an eye. He just said, "Oh....that's not cool." It's still there I'm sure.
One night an unruly group of teens were inside the playplace spitting on the windows. The manager was totally fine with it apparently and never asked them to leave. Just really disgusting altogether.
Tatoos are the least of McDonald's image problems.

That show will put you off fast food! I didn't eat at MD for a long time after I watched it, and even now severely restrict how often I go there.
(I think the title was Supersize Me. The man ate only McD for thirty days, and he ate everything on the menu at least once. He had a medical exam before he started and one at the end. Seriously damaged his liver, gained a lot of weight, a lot of other health issues.)

That is a real shame. You can send a comment on mcdonalds.com or call 18002446227 and report this. It may make a diffrence or not but at least you are being pro active. I believe if consumers started taking the time to really insist on at least a decent level of service these companies might make some changes. Every time I have complained (and God knows that is often:-D) I have recieved positive results.

I've recently learned that the customer service at a lot of places (not just around here) has gone down the tube! Some workers just do not take it very seriously anymore and I think it's because they know for example "McDonalds" is such a well known fast food name that they can get away with it and people will more than likely return. For example, I was recently at a Subway this week getting dinner and the girl was so ready to complete my transaction that she was beginning to get an attitude when I was adding things to my order like it was an inconvenience to her!
I am not into tattoos either. I don't care to have to see this on someone waiting on me in the food industry. I bet if you are known to not hire someone because of a tattoo an attorney would have your business. I would imagine it could be considered to be prejudice. Any attorneys on here like to comment on this?

I have walked out of retail stores and restaurants because of my opinion of tatoos and piercings. I personally don't like them, so I don't support establishments that hire people that have them. I make sure to let the management know why I didn't buy anything or order anything. I know that some of you here have piercings and tatoos and that's ok. It's a free country. I just prefer to do business with folks that think that a "dress code" to some extent is important.

Yet, I think I read where Hooters could turn folks down because they didn't have the proper "equipment"? Hmmm...I don't think I would be able to get a job at Hooters...and they wouldn't tell me that I'm too old or that I don't have the "equipment". I just wouldn't be hired.

Companies are allowed to set dress codes...and employees have to comply with it if they want to keep the job. I have two visible facial piercings. I take them out at my present job because my boss doesn't like them. No big deal. When I taught in NV, there was not a dress code for teachers, so I could leave those same piercings in and not have a problem.
More and more people are pierced and tattooed. The percentage of young people with tattoos is something around 30-40%. The corporate world will eventually have, and is already beginning, to adapt.

Well like I said earlier I do have 2 tattoos on my forearms...and if I were applying for a job where I had to have a professional business like appearance, I would be more than willing to wear longsleeves to cover them up. I could completely understand if I wasnt offered the job if I had a tat on my face.

I bet. I usually pick Ward's because at least I know 2 of the owners in H'burg and Petal. I dont think they would have really bad places. Plus I used to work at the Petal one, long time ago, but it was clean back then.

All over tats can be rather disgusting... but I can think of something worse...
I no longer eat at the Wendy's in Petal. My family and I were in there 1 night and there was a "food preparer" in the back with sores all over their arms. And he was picking at them. :smt118 That was it for me.
Tats are fine - they're not open wounds!!!!
