So after doing a little researching for some on MH I decided to do a little digging... As you know restaurants go through several inspections a year... The inspectors are not scared of giving a facility a failing grade if they screw up... The ratings are A, B and C. I decided to put in the search engine Donanelles to see how they stacked up according to The Department of Health. Here are the results...
http://www.msdh.state.ms.us/food/FacilityRecord.aspx?PimsID=1172199
You will not be surprised by the results from the many inspections they have had... After talking to both Hawk and Elle it is apparent they are meticulous in what they do... Woo hoo!
I am gonna get up there this coming week for sure...
Here is a link for you to put in your favorite restaurant...
http://www.msdh.state.ms.us/food/default.aspx
Or you can put in your county or city and see which ones were given A's and which ones were given C's... The results will shock you for sure... They thump a restaurant pretty hard for any infraction!!!
Go ahead and put in Forrest County or Hattiesburg and look at all the restaurants you visit and see what they score... :ohnoes:

Ahhh... I don't miss those days at all... Somehow, the health inspector always seemed to come when something was broken, or maybe something was always broken in that POS building I had to put up with...
Scott's a good guy and very business friendly.
We failed ONE inspection, and I'm still pissed at the people who made that happen. I had been on vacation, and someone didn't order sanitizer powder. No one told me about it and no one said anything about there not being any in the store. He had to fail us on that one point. I went out and bought some as soon as he left... stupid people.

Why is this in the entertainment section?I know there was somewhere everyone wrote about restaurants but it was late and I could not find any threads in the other sections so I went with the entertainment...:smt102 Dining???
Anyway thought it would be nice to see how the Department of Health sees your restaurant... I know there are a couple here in Picayune that I won't go back to.... I had already quit going and now I can tell the missus we sure aint going!!!

Ever since I read this and saw the link to the health department I've been plugging restaurants in...It's pretty interesting what you will find and how many times some places fail :smt103 There are also a lot of places that did very well so that's always a positive! Rodents and insects just aren't so yummy to me!

I really wish these health inspections were done at random. From what I understand the establishment always knows an around about time the health inspector will be coming (First Tuesday of each month etc.) In that case, what's the point really? Wish they'd change that. =\

You have a pretty good idea when they're coming if you're paying attention. they have to do an inspection every 3 months. Other than that, it's a crapshoot. They'd show up on any day of the week, any time from 9am-4pm. What I wish they'd do would be to inspect these places at night. that's a critical time when most GM's are off and the stores are being run by high school kids, etc.

Yeah, I looked over the site a bit...interesting. Seems it's the same persons doing the inspections. After a few years of the same health inspector coming...you'd think there would be a "buddy" type relationship. Then next thing you know Mr/Mrs Health Inspector let's the establishment know they'll be back on such and such date next month. I know that happens ALOT which really sucks. ;(

If you're friendly with the inspector and get to know them, then they'll point some stuff out to you rather than writing it down. If you fix it then, no problem. If you're an ass to them, they're going to throw the book at you. It's like any kind of law enforcement. Nice to the cop, he may let you find a ride home rather than charging you with a DUI. nasty to him, you're going to jail.
I believe the website lists the date of the next inspection.
I'm not too naive to believe that corruption of the system takes place. All I know is what I've experienced.

copelands failed nearly ALL of 2006. in 2007 they got a B and a C. i wonder how long that restaurant will stay open. Longhorn and Olive Garden are taking all the business and the parking lot is always empty.
im surprised the health inspector didnt close them down. 3 times in a year? how bad does it have to get? if i had a restaurant you would be able to do surgery in the cooking area in the back.
maybe i am different though?

I just left a local establishment and came straight here. The establishment I had lunch at passed the last several inspections. As a matter of fact, I did not see where they failed the 1st one; however, half way thru my lunch, there was a small roach on my plate. Needless to say, the rest of what was in my mouth went into the napkin and I was done.
Unfortunately, my daddy was with me and it just so happened to be our favorite place for lunch. He preceded to tell me that even though some people liked such delicacies, he did not and we'd have to find us a new place to eat.

I can understand sometimes things happen but when there's an issue and you inform management of the problem and they have the DGAF attitude about it it really makes me ill.

I've only ever had that problem once...in a place in New Orleans. At first I didn't know what it was, but when I figured it out...
That management was *really* good about it. Extremely apologetic, offered me anything on the menu I wanted, brought a bottle of wine over. I was done eating, although I did enjoy the wine (I was there that evening to write).
I didn't make a scene or anything; I understand that it happens in the best of kitchens. I just don't want to be confronted with the tangible proof of it.
I've actually gone back there and never had another problem.

I would like to point out that though the name of this thread is Donnanelles and Health Department inspections Citygirl's story is in no way a reflection on that fine eating establishment. And perhaps in the future we could put restaurant critiques (esp unfavorable ones) under a thread that does not include the name of Donnanelles to avoid any confusion or misinterpretation.
Thanks,

And I in no way made reference to Donnelle's. I put it in this thread BECAUSE this thread has the link to look at various resturants to see how they fared in their latest inspection. Sorry I didn't draw you a picture.
In another post, I did not name names, but the last time I visited the old injun and his squaw, I drove down to Dixie and Mexican dishes weren't on the menu!

I didn't mean to imply that you were dissing Don & Elle, it's just that when I saw the first two posts on this page (by DYates) it seemed that they may have been in ref to D&E's until I read back & forth a little & got clarified.

Fact: Ron Paul is no longer a contender in the Presidential election.
Fact: Ron Paul was never a real contender for the Presidential election.
Fact: Some members of the Ron Paul group are also members of the truth in 9/11 and vaccines groups.
Thus... a handful of people show up to Hawk's place, with it's big Ron Paul sign painted on the side, which is just sad now, IMO, and talk about the glory days of Ron Paul's presidency and any other conspiracy theory about shadow governments and black helicopters and mind control...
Therefore, a sad little kook fest.
