I like it so far.....Not as good as "Lonesome Dove", but I doubt anything will ever compare.....I think the guy playing young Gus is good....has the same mannerisms as Robert Duvall playing Ol' Gus....I like the young Clara character too....

ES, I told my husband that I thought that the actor playing young Gus had a lot of the same mannerisms as Robert Duval. They picked a very good "young Gus". I didn't realize that the actor playing Scull is Val Kilmer!!! He just looks so different! I think that the first "Lonesome Dove" was the very best of all of them.

You can't match Duvall in anything. Being a huge Lonesome Dove fan, I just couldn't get into it. I turned it off shortly after the Texas Rangers got back to town with the woman and her two chillins.:smt009

It took me awhile to realize that was him too! He looks like he might have put on alittle weight.

I like the young Gus. But it's too easy to compare the young Gus McRae to Robert Duvall and Woodrow Call to Tommy Lee Jones. What you should do is compare them to how they are portrayed in the book.

Lonesome Dove was such a popular movie that most think of Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones as Gus and Call and think that anyone playing that part should act like Duvall and Jones. But if you read the books, Duvall and Jones don't exactly match the way the characters were portrayed in the book.

To me, the important thing is to portray the characters as they were described in the book. I don't like the young Call because he doesn't remind me of Tommy Lee Jones, but he is still somewhat closer to how Call is described in the book.
