I've been told before, but I seem to have forgotten.
Anyone know how to speed up the avacado ripening process? I'm back from the grocery store and really want guacamole tonight.... but, as usual- they neve rhave good avacados. The ones I got were pretty firm. Any way to get them softer through the day?

Put the avocado in a paper sack with an apple or banana and keep at room temperature.

I like takin' that big seed pod and wackin' it with a sand wedge...lol...I love avacado's. They are greasy as hell though. You can light a rotten one on fire and it will burn forever. lol. Peanuts burn a long time too.

I think you'd be better off going to buy some ripe avacaldos. They're not going to ripen by tonight.

well, I have been known to beat the crap out of avocado if I had a craving for guacamole... and I have looked lately at several grocery stores, never can find ripe ones. It's like the stores have an avocado fairy that steals them once their ripe....

That sort of reminds me of that joke from the movie "Predator". What does the Jolly Green Giant fear the most?.......

Okay, the brown paper bag thing may work, but it doesn't work in 9-10 hours :( I was SO disappointed that I didn't have guacamole to go with my fajitas last night!! I beat the CRAP out of those avocados... didn't soften one dang bit. CB- you were right. SO, if anyone in the future fins avocados that are actually good and ripe in a grocery store, PLEASE PM me so I can get there ASAP! Nothing better than homemade guacamole :)

wrot? wrot?
Why'd you throw them away? You could have saved them for this weekend.
If you've got a food processor, you could have added them in there and pureed them. Not quite the same, but it would have been a nice substitute.
Me, I like my 'guacamole', which is basically just mashed up avacaldo, minced garlic and salt. Yummy!

Well, I had already peeled them, so no salvaging them after that.... the rest of dinner was already cooked at that point (thanks to the boy), so I didn't feel like bustin out the food processor.

Yeah, 'peeling' an avacaldo... not something that should ever be done.
For those who are reading and don't know, you slice the avacaldo in half, chop your knife into the pit and twist it out, and the meat of the avacaldo should just slip out of the skin. If you're 'peeling' it, it's not ripe.

ha yeah, I knew it was trouble when I did cut it in half (like usual) and ended up having to scrape and peel to get the meat out :(
