My son is going to be getting tubes inserted into his ears and his adenoids removed. :ohnoes: I know that the tubes is fairly routine. Has anyone else had kids get their adenoids out? How was the recovery? Pain? Bleeding? Anything you care to tell me would be appreciated!

My youngest had his tonsils and adenoids removed a couple of years ago. It was rough on the little guy. And, beware, his breathe will be HORRIBLE until it heals. My doctor warned me, but phew I just didn't expect it to be THAT bad. But, kids being kids, they don't stay down long. Within a couple of days my youngest was looking for chicken nuggets. ;)

How long should I expect him to be "down and out" after the adenoids? Should I expect him to miss alot of school?

I would think he'd miss at least 3 days of school. Doctor may want him home longer - mine stayed out a week, but part of that could have been because of the tonsils.

Having just gone through this with my Jr./jr. who is 14 mos. I can tell you a few things. First of all his breath is gonna start stinkin' about 3 days afterwards....really ripe smellin' too, but this is commonplace with adenoid removal. My son was basically back to his normal self in about 5 days, but his appetite changed alot. he will need to eat a soft diet...no chips or nothing like that. Just mashed potatoes and the like. I will tell you this. He will prolly snore if he is not snoring already for a couple of days afterwards...my son sounded like a chainsaw....it was horrible.
The adenoid removal was the best thing yet. No more runny noses for us!

We wouldn't let the doctor remove Michael's adenoids. He got tubes but there was nothing wrong with his adenoids. I think it's an unnecessary surgery. He's 36 and doing dandily with his adenoids. I still have mine. I think it's a fad myself and a way for the doctor to pick up a quick couple of bucks. But YOU are the only one who can make that call.

It TEE TOTALY helped Jr./jr. with his breathing and sleeping...no more breathing treatments. No more snoring. No more runny noses...it was a miracle in the waiting. He is a happy youngun' with happy parents now!

My dear son snores like an orchestra that consists of only chainsaws. I'm hoping it dosen't make him feel too miserable. It makes me miserable when he's miserable.

I appreciate that. I know its a pretty routine little procedure, I'm just nervous because he's never been under anesthesia and all before.

my daughter had hers done years ago by Dr Sobeisk and he did a great job. We did it during spring break. I know you have been told about the breath but OMG it is horrible just imagine the worse smell and it still don't compare. I can tell you this that the first couple of times I got a whiff of that stuff I had the ol gag reflex. I just can't tell you how bad it is...
With that being said the breat is the worse part of it all.

He occasionally has some stinky breath (and I mean knock you to the floor stench). I wonder if the problems with his adenoids could have contributed to it somehow.

My poor son was plagued from birth with sinus problems and runny noses. And snore, geez he sounded like a full grown man at times. Since he had his adenoids removed - I haven't had to take him to the doctor with another sinus infection. As much as it pained me to have him in pain, I would do it again.

my youngest had her adenoids removed and tubes placed when she was about 2. it was a huge blessing. you'll be glad you did it.
We were warned about the breath - and it was horrible! And Dr. Guice said she would not want to eat for about a day. Well, she woke up STARVING! She ate pork chops, mashed potatoes, etc. It never fazed her. I had to give her Motrin, but she really never acted cranky or anything.
