Do you ever notice how much music plays a roll in our lives? How many songs you listen to and say "hey that sounds like me?"
I like the Blues... which may be one of the reasons I get down on myself and get the Blues....
I thought about this as I was thinking about what to put on the thread on Life Experience on the way home the other day. I had a Skynyrd CD in at the time and one of the songs gave me the answer. The Lucky Man play and I realized that I am a Lucky old Fart to have what I have and live the life I lead..
How about you folks? You get the same kind of messages from music?

I don't get messages like that from music unless I feel like listening to something that touches me in a certain way.
However, I NEED to have music playing in the background while at work otherwise my day would last much too long.

Oh I get messages from music all the time. I was bopping along to a favorite cd that the formerboy put together for me and it hit me that almost all the songs were dark and depressing...in spite of the cheery beat.
A sampling of lyrics:
"I think I'm drownin', asphyxiated.
I want to break the spell you've created.
You will be the death of me."
"Bury it, I won't let you bury it.
I won't let you murder it."
"I'll be swingin' from a short length of rope,
light as a feather and stiff as a board.
If you want me, if you need me,
then please feel free to ouija me."
"The end is the beginning and every one between
is so lost. Oh so lost.
And you won't feel a thing.
And you won't recall anything."
Of course the cd wrapped up with "Hot for Teacher" by Van Halen. Wonder what he was trying to tell me. :smt103 :kekeke:

i love music ... it's (lol quite literally) my life :D ... imo, that's exactly what music is for ... be it blues, or jazz, classical, country ... or even hip-hop ... it's the ultimate form of self-expression!! so many different genres "speak" to me ... i think i wouldn't know what to do with myself if i didn't have my music :D the hubby otoh ... since he's not djing too much anymore ... he's gotten away from listening to alot of music ... he stays tuned to news all day and then wonders WHY he's depressed all the time :smt103

I like music that makes me feel good or connects to me in a way. I really don't like to much of the modern/popular stuff. I detest most hip-hop. does soldjah boy have marbles in his mouth? Have you ever really listen to his lack of pronunciation? Jeez. People think it's cool and I'm getting pissed off b/c something so stupid is so popular. Sheeple.
I like folk type music. John Denver's got some great stuff that makes me appreciate life.

"Written for the ring tone market"
Man, that's the phrase I've been looking for. It's not music, it's a ring tone.

I like music that is upbeat, fast and gets me going. Techno/house comes to mind . Life can be depressing enough, I don't need to hear more about it in songs. I don't like country and heavy metal and can't stand 99% of (c)rap.

Let's just say that I have arrived at a point in my life where the beats are sufficient ;) ( my son would say that I am older than dirt but I think that's a bit harsh )

I like different kinds of music, depends on the mood and if I'm around friends or by myself. I like oldies, soft rock, country, some blues/jazz, a little cajun every now and then.....
One song that's currently on the charts and my hubby says it fits me (now i don't know why he thinks that  :
The More I Drink ~ Blake Shelton
He was sittin' at the bar, sippin' on a regular Coke
We were drinkin' and smokin' and makin' him the butt of our jokes
We all said, "Man, what happened to you? Why can't you just have a few?"
He said, "I would if I could, but it's probably best that I don't."
[Chorus]
Cause the more I drink, the more I drink
Yeah, I'm the world's greatest lover and a dancin' machine
I get loud, I get proud....and it gets worse
Well if I have one, I'll have thirteen
Naw, there ain't no in-between
Cause, the more I drink, the more I drink.
A couple of cold ones, and somebody hands me a shot.
Hell, even buck-tooth and bow-legged women start lookin' hot
And pretty soon I'm bummin' cigarettes and sweet talkin' some big brunette
Yeah, once I get on a roll, ain't no tellin' where I'll stop
[Chorus]
Yep-yep
Humm, that's what I'm talking about
Man, if I have one, I'll have thirteen
And they can't get me off the kareoke machine,
The more I drink...the more I drink.
Yeah, the more I drink, the more I drink, the more I drink.

I knew I was getting older the first time my 12 year old said, "Hey mom, do you like Black Eye'd Peas?" to which I replied, "I sure do, especially with smoked ham hocks." I thought I was going to have to take him to the ER.

I have no clue :-D
I like the genre but never really focused on anyone specific. I usually listen to music while I exercise and as long as the beat gets me going I don't care to whom I am listening. I am easy to please ;)

TOO funny amanda!! it almost sounds like my moms reaction when she heard us listening to Skynard and the Rolling Stones ... Clapton and Peter Frampton :-D Only I thought we were gonna have to take HER to the ER :smt118 Ain't nothin like Classic Rock & Roll!!
It really depends on the mood I am in. I do NOT do rap or hip-hop. I love Skynyrd and Kiss and Elton John and Twitty and Lynn too. I can listen to almosy any music-just not rap and hip-hop. Oh yeah- I love Patsy Cline too. See, I am still cool in my own way.

Don't forget Pink Floyd. Ahhh......yeah....Dark Side of the Moon. HmHmHm. I think I'll have to tune in my XM to the classics on the way home!

This song, "Melissa" by the Allman Brothers, is a small part of the reason I got married, even though my wife's name isn't Melissa, the song convinced me that it was okay for a wandering spirit to need something solid and sure in his life (boy, they may be the gayest thing I've ever posted here!):
Crossroads seem to come and go.... yeah
The gypsy flies from coast to coast,
Knowin' many lovin' none,
Bearin' sorrow havin fun,
But back home He'll always run....
..to sweet Melissa. mmmhmmm...
Freight train, each car looks the same.... all the same
And no one knows the gypsy's name,
No one hears his lonely sigh,
There are no blankets where he lies,
In all his deepests dreams the gypsy flies.....
..to sweet Melissa.
Again the mornin's come,
Again he's on the run,
Sunbeams shinin' through his hair,
Appearin' not to have a care.
Pick up your gear n' gypsy roll along...
..roll along.
Crossroads, would you ever let him go? ...no, no.
Oh will you hide the dead man's ghost?
Or will he lye beneath the plain?
Will his spirit roll away?
But I know that he wont stay...
..without Melissa.
Yes I know that he wont stay...
..without Melissa

Creating music, in my opinion, is BY FAR the best experience one can ever have.
