I noticed today a for Lease sign on the Barnhill's building.Has it closed? I know that I have read that the food had gotten pretty bad and the service was even worse but, did not know that is was maybe going out of business, has anyone heard about it?

Yeah, I think it happened just here recently within the last week or two. I was there visiting the kitchen about a month or two ago...I can completely understand why they closed...NASTY.

I ate there once when I was in a training thing in that area and needed a fast lunch. The food tasted like old people. I think when one keels over in a booth, they boil 'em up with the greens.

Barnhill's used to have really good food a few years back. Then it started to go down hill. The veggies tasted like something they just poured out of a can. We started going to Farmer's Market & they are really good. We go there to eat lunch every Sunday after church.

So you've tasted old people? Anything like chicken?

Wouldn't hurt my feelings if they closed the doors.

Our last visit there was 'OUR LAST VISIT'......

The last time we went to Barnhills was after the hurricane...I think the January or December immediately following it. They kept running out of dishes (understandable, it happens) but when they started bringing the plates out there was still food on them. Nasty half chewed garbaged food. People were demanding refunds, but the little &*#)% that was on management duty that night was refusing people. Believe me, I got my refund and called the district manager that Monday. We never went back. My MIL and her brood went a few months back. They said the food was awful and they were STILL using dirty plates. I'm not sorry to see them go.

I've never had Old People but it had no taste just a hint of grease and fat.

Oh, & how could I forget the time that I found a little surprise in my fresh broccolli??? It was a GREEN WORM & the fat little fellow was very much alive! I called one of the servers over & showed it to him & he said "Oh, my!" I didn't scream or have a fit like some of my relatives would do, just handed it to him quietly because I didn't want the other diners to get upset.:smt118

I know that they had trouble keeping management and turned over the whole house on the management side a few times. My understanding is that the company didn't want to pay to have anything repaired. I know they sunk that money in when they did the refurb a few years ago. I guess they didn't give any money toward the kitchen area.

I wonder how long before Hattiesburg gets a Golden Corral?

My parents eat at a Barnhills in Monroe about once or twice a year that they claim is great. The in-laws eat at one in Pensacola (I think) that they say is good too. I think it was more of a hattiesburg location problem than a overall barnhills problem.

I just noticed fire mountain is now ryans again. I was never impressed with either of these here. We ate at a Ryans in Branson, MO, over Christmas and it was damn good.

ewww, I think if I saw a worm on my plate, I'd just have to quietly get up and leave the building. That's just gross.

I HATE buffet food. It all tastes the same. I have a theory that there is some secret appetite suppressant that they all use so you'll pay your $7.99 or whatever for all you can eat, then only want one plate.

Hey...if one of my fellow diners finds a live green work squiggling around...I need to be upset...I need to know this pertinent bit of information! Especially if I, too, am indulging in fresh broccoli.

Next time (for you or anyone out there)--please...feel free to whoop and holler and alert us all. Please.

Please.

I went to Barnhill's with my grandmother when they first opened and was not impressed enough to return... CB, I am with you on the Golden Corral coming to the Burg!

I saw a moving truck at Barnhill's earlier in the week, and noticed the marquee had "closed" on it.

Can't say I'm surprised.

We haven't eaten there in years. The last time we ate there we literally had to step over chicken leg bones that had been dropped on the floor.

My mother never could get the name right. Always called it Barnyard's.

Maybe she was onto something.

I am not surprised at all. It used to be a good place to eat. Prior to Katrina we used to go eat there atleast 2x a month. I took my kids not long after Katrina and that was the last time I walked in there. It was nasty!! Appearance, cleanliness and food were all horrible.

If you miss it, go to County Line Road in North Jackson, they have one there. Same nasty food and atmosphere that I remember in HBurg.

Just an update...I did a quick check on Barnhill's and they are in Chapter 11 bankruptcy..and I'm assuming closed their store here to get out of their lease.

They've sold 16 other stores...including the ones in Jackson, Meridian, Tupelo and Starkvegas to another company.

I used to love Barnhill's when I practiced in Tupelo and ate it several times here. But as guess as my weight got more than I'd like it to be, I've shyed away from the lunch buffets generally (other than the Movie Star in Purvis which I still cant resist when I'm down there).

In any event, I still hate to see them go. When properly run, like the one in Tupelo, the food's very good.

I know someone who works for Golden Corral and the rumor is one or two years away from coming here.

Movie Star. Sigh. I went there for lunch last year with a group of women from church. They decided whoever made the fried chicken should be allowed straight into Heaven, no questions asked!:kekeke:

Yeah, there was a reason for the farm motif at Barnhill's.

Anyone who actually chose to eat at that place was definitely a piggy in a past life.
