A few days ago I was driving from my sisters house which is around the W.P.A. rd area outside of O.G. and I just so happened to look on the side of the road at a small logging road and there was the cutest little puppy that is about 6 weeks old. So I stopped and noticed a small pile of dog food on the logging road.

As I walked towards the puppy he started to run away with his tail tucked. I followed him to the wood line where I found another puppy about to freeze to death. I could not take it anymore so i picked them up and brought them to my truck and put them on the floor and directed the heater to the floor to warm them up.

As I started to drive off I noticed the temp gauge on my rear view mirror and it was 27 outiside, then mamma dog come running up looking for her pups. She was nothing but pitiful. She ran up to me and stopped and showed me the biggest set of sad eyes that I have ever seen. So I loaded her up also. Then I got to thinking what am I going to do with these dogs I already have 2 small dogs and a german shepherd,a baby and a wife.

So I called my wife and she agreed that we had to do something so I have them here at the house now. So if you would like to have a dog please send me a message I would love to see all 3 of them go to the same place they are all very sweet dogs. If I can not find a loving home for these pups and mom I will keep them until the right person or persons come along. Nothing should be left out in the freezing cold hoping someone like me would drive by.

There is no excuse for throwing any living animal out on the street. If you can not keep your animals bring them to a shelter and leave them, carry them to a kennel or vets office and leave them no questions asked. But some low life decided that throwing them on the side of the road would be so much easier than doing the right thing.

If anyone can help me place the dogs please let me know..

Thank you, walking tall, for taking them in. You did the right thing and I am happy to know that there are people like you out there who do care for our furry little friends. God bless you!

If I still lived in MS, I would seriously consider taking one. They are all adorable. I will ask around to my MS friends and see if anyone is looking for a dog.

Try getting intouch with the No Kill shelter in Lumberton. If you can't find a home for them maybe the shelter can.

Those are some beautiful babies. You're a helluva person for not doing the typical "turning away".

Walking Tall, you are certainly living up to your name... Thank you for taking those dogs and giving them a good home. They are so precious. I do hope that you can find a good home for all of them. I have three new strays at my house that have just showed up there and I just buy more feed and keep 'em... Good luck with them!

I thank you as well. How many more are out there that a good Samaritan didn't come across? Maybe one day people will realize that they need to spay and neuter, that they don't need to breed their dog, that every pup they will sell on the roadside takes up a home for those already here, and, finally, that when they no longer can care for their pet they act responsibly and find a home or use a shelter. What a hardhearted person to dump this mother dog in freezing weather and then go back home to a heated house and sip some hot chocolate. It boggles the mind.

oh my, what beautiful dogs!! I would take one but I would be homeless myself. After our dog passed away last year my husband said no more dogs allowed :( I'll ask around at work tomorrow. They look like brindles??

people who mistreat animals :smt071

I like, (in a way) to watch the show on animal planet where they bust people for being cruel to them.

I used to watch that show but seeing some of those pets just breaks my heart. One I saw got beat with a shoe on the head so much one of its eyes fell out  To me they should do that to the owners and let them see what it felt like

The dogs i think are a bulldog mix. They are great dogs. Mamma dog like to dig holes but that is my only complaint.I have taught her to shake hands and fetch. The pups are getting big.I will try and update with more pics. Thanks for the concern everybody

Maybe you could make some flyers and place them in vet offices..............

Walking Tall, you and a true hero, a person whose compassion and 'heart' know no bounds. I've looked at the pictures and thought . . oh, no . . I'd be divorced in a heartbeat . . oh, no . .

Amanda's wonderful dog, Gypsy, come to us that way. Gyps (for short) was dropped down the road by a wonderful, kind individual who didn't bother leaving her any food. She came to my door that evening and "knocked" (really). I pushed my dog, Chots, back, went outside and looked into her eyes, and then looked at the mange on her, and then . . called Amanda (who lived down the road then). She came up, looked at her, said "Mom, she's EATEN UP with mange!" And I said, "But, look into her eyes, Amanda."

Next morning, Amanda took her to the Vet, and eventually spent over $300 "curing" her. Now? Gyps is part of their family (even if BB did "spank" her recently for wee-weeing on the carpet. He tells me she's giving him the 'evil eye' as a result, but - she'll come around.)

Congratulations to you. The World needs more like you.

Thats such a great story Sue. We caught some kittens one time that were abandoned. We saw them and went back home and got a can of tuna. This was on a backroad in the boonies where we saw the babies. We went back and put the can in the mid of the road ....those hungry babies come running and we caught them and put them in the pet taxi..I did get bit but no big deal.
Brought them home, tamed them, named them Jesse and James and found a good home for them.
