How new are you to the area? Are you a student?
I'm kind of new to the MH forums so others may know more about you than I.

What sort of folks would you like to meet? Tell a little about yourself.

Volunteering at events and being a part of different organizations are a great way to meet people. There are many volunteer opportunities available according to what you would like to do, then there are community organizations like the Hattiesburg Jaycees where you could meet others and network. A church is also a good place to meet new people in this area.

There is the bar scene, but I thing that if you were into that you probably would not be asking the question.

I would have to agree with Aaron. Church plus some of the different Vol. organizations.

Softball field at registration time if you play softball. Bowling alley, golf course and yes Aaron is right.........church events. What are you interested in? Any hobbies? I have met most friends from other friends, softball and bowling. Joining a league in bowling is the fastest way I have ever met friends. Come to Hub lanes on 49 north and hang-out a while on Wed. or Thurs. nights and you will see if that is a type of environment you would fit into. There are different people of all ages-race, religion and sex. Let me know if you are going sometime and I will tell you who I am and I can introduce you to some people.

Whatever you do, be sure to watch your purse/wallet closely at the gas stations on Hardy near the main highways - I was robbed this past Sunday afternoon. Sunday afternoon!! Very disappointed.

Lots of outdoor exercise opportunities and neat stuff indoors (especially at the Payne center)...plus the library is pretty and well stocked...

Hub Lanes???? Be careful - be very careful - XC9 may introduce you to me and Mrs DY and then you'll really appreciate why she claims "There are different people of all ages-race, religion and sex" :kekeke::kekeke:

Whoa! What do you mean robbed? Armed, purse snatching or what. This is something ALL MHers need to know. I am sorry it happened and would like more specifics please.

Did you say sex :bowrofl:? We don't do that at the bowling alley. There really are people from all over the WORLD at this place-damnyanks got him a worldly lady-and I don't mean a southerner who is well traveled either. Poor lady, he dragged her butt all the way down to Missippi (my pronunciation). She actually seems happy though, oh maybe that's cause when I see her she is just happy to be seeing me.

Not me. I don't make friends at work anyhow. When I'm working, I'm working. I don't want to see you outside of work, b/c it just reminds me of work. Now, if I ENJOYED my work, it might be different.

Call the shelter and ask for "Ginny" (Virginia Cheatham), she is the manager. I am sure she can find plenty of work for you to do and will be ever so thankful for your help. Good luck and I know you will make many friends there...both two and four legged varieties!

Good for you! This is a job that requires heart and a strong will....otherwise you will end up with a house full of them. That's what keeps me away, no will so I just send money...hope you take "my place"

As a side note, join the Y. Is a great place to develop friends as well as workout. ADP is another option to look into...they have various committees to work with and meet people...something is always going on.

Like ballroom dancing? There is a group that meets on Monday at the Siglar Center.

Good luck!

XC9, what about this softball thing?? I'm a guy in search of a team and league. I used to be on a team, but it now kaput. So I have no where to play. Can anyone just show up and get on a team or is it just folks who know each other who band together and form team? I don't know enough people who play to make a team.

I hurt my knee and have other surgeries that cause me not to be able to play but if you call Hattiesburg Recreation and find out when the meeting is for the summer league coming up you can go up there. There are usually teams who are needing people to fill teams. Better yet, I'll start you a thread looking for a team.

Sorry it's taken me so long to respond - I've been swamped. So, this guy lifted my wallet off of me at the Shell on Hardy (across from CVS) and I didn't realize it until I got to Picayune...I went back when I got back to town, but, of course, it was too late.

I know better and am so disappointed this happened. Spent the day getting id, credit card, etc. information straightened out, but mostly feel foolish and unsafe where I used to feel secure.

...Southern Pines is ok, don't forget other opportunities (depending on the kinds of animals you want to work with) - there is the zoo and lots of farms, veterinary clinics, etc.; a little out of the box, though...
