I just thought I'd like to see what everyone thinks about our possibly, partially, black presidential hopeful. What do we know about him? Why is he not a good candidate? Is he black? And, of course, what is up with those ears?

Well, I know his mama is white, but I've never heard that his dad is black. I thought his dad came from Indonesia. It matters not to me, so I never gave it a lot of thought. The only thing I don't like about him is his Muslim education during his formative years, and the racist church, group, clan, whatever, he attends and supports.

My biggest problem with Oboma is why he refuses to put his hand over his heart during pledge, why and where is his heart at ,doesn't look to me the country is, I might be totally wrong just don't get that.

Rather than focus on what he isn't or can't be, or the negative things about him, let's focus on what I think are the positives.
I think he can bring people together who are willing to listen. There are some who are going to be dead set against him and say he's wrong if he declares the sky is blue and water is wet. I think he's willing to listen. I like the way he speaks and I think he can move us if we let him.
Republicans and conservatives talk about how bad things are, but America isn't listening. Let him move the country one way and let America see how 'bad' it can be, then they can get some sh!t done their way. We've had GWB tarnishing the name of 'conservative' for 8 years. He started out okay until 9/11... then it kinda went downhill about 2 years after that.
I am a conservative at heart. I don't agree with 99% of Obama's politics. But I like him more than 99% of all other candidates. I don't even get it. I have faith that nothing will happen in Congress. People will fight, Clinton will call in all favors to make Obama's term as bad as they can. Republicans will poster and pose and preen and shake their head like a kid with a spoonful of mashed peas in front of their mouth.
Unless a conservative can woo me back, I'm going to vote for Obama. I've never voted for any democrat, local, state, or national. I've voted 3rd party, but never Democrat.

He didn't do it at one highly publicized event. He's done it in the traditional way at other less televised events. He doesn't 'refuse to put his hand over his heart during the pledge'.

WHAT? Why? Am I some kind of racist ogre? I see his dad is Kenyan, died in an auto accident. His dad was Muslim and his mom was "secular" meaning atheist. She's dead too. I am surprised that the media would now look deeper into who he really is. He lied about who he was at the 2004 DNC. Muslims consider him a Muslim because his father was a Muslim. His first name comes from the Koran. He is just very unsettling to me. Now, this is what I have read about him. I've also read crap that his Mother was a Christian. So I guess we will believe what we believe. I 'spose one could make an argument that he has all the characteristics of the Anti-Christ. But then, some have called me that too.:smt118

His mother iss white, she is an atheist from Wichita, Kansas. His father was black (from Kenya), who was an agnostic at the time he married Barak's mother. His step father was indonesian (that's where some of the confusion comes from) and a muslim. As a child in Indonesia Barak attended both Catholic & Muslim schools, and studied the Koran as well as the Catechism. I believe he was agnostic until, because of political pressure joined the Church of Christ, and now professes to have "Christian Values".
I'm writing this from memory of research I did on the guy a while back so if I'm off on some points please correct me.

It is the United Church of Christ, which is differently (way different than the Church of Christ). Also has anyone ever seen that Hertz commercial where that guy does the Johnny Cash song "I've Been Everywhere"? He looks like that guy, ears and all.

I'd prefer someone who's not associated with a racist organization be my president. Obama is a member of a racist organization.
His wife has already broken out the race card and yelled at people. I just don't see this as appropriate.
Another thing, and this applies to all of the candidates, is the fact that he has yet to say what he's going to do. What are his plans? All I here is he's for change but he never tells us what that change is. Change isn't always better.....regardless of how bad a situation is.
If you look at his voting record (when he's actually voted) he's not really for change, other than the war.
I just want one person on either side to tell me their plans. I don't care about how they've done this or that, I want a plan for the future. All I'm getting right now is bragging about ones ability to do this or that. Prove it to me with your plan.

I've found that you can find out more about a candidate by reading their website than by trying to listen to them. Obama has many plans outlined on his website, www.barackobama.com.

To me the only one that has actually said what he is gonna do is Ron Paul. He says heads are gonna roll. That's what we need. Some to be accountable for screw ups. I say if he can go up there and rid alot of the wastefulness our elected officials have so easily adhered to then by God let him do it. Take out enough contacts in the gov. and no one has anyone to go and cry to.

I checked out his site but it's pretty much just statements about his voting record, which by the way, contradicts some of his statements. See the energy bill he voted for that empowers the oil companies.
Maybe I'm missing his plan. I looked under issues and Obama info. Can you spoon-feed me the directions to his plans?

I'm not voting for someone who just looks good on a television screen. A lot of people are, and that's scary.

Look at his stance on immigration. That alone nixed my vote.
I also wonder if he has the backbone to stand up to all the specialty groups who will try to use him in Washington.
Basically his stances on the issues are abysmal for the most part (and in my opinion). Not that I'm crazy about the other candidates...cause they all pretty much blow.

Here's a little discernment for the day -- Barack Obama was today endorsed by Ted Kennedy, the liberal lion of the U.S. Senate. That can only lead one to conclude that Obama is even more liberal than Hillary Clinton.
I'm not thrilled with many of the GOP candidates this year, but I'll support any of them over Clinton or Obama.

I thought Hillary he vote "Present" most of the time. My wild guess is because he couldn't get money under the table to vote yea or nea. He surely didn't have much he thought was worth a yea or a nea, or he wasn't informed enough to chose either/or. And, if Kennedy is for him.........that dictates my vote immediately. Him and the Labor Unions. Either way, it can't spell good times down the road for me.

Obama is an empty shell. He's all style and no substance that I see. His voting record is vague at best. He's made it this far based only on his so-called gift for inspiring the people. His message is all catch phrases. I'm not inspired. I admit I'm very conservative and therefore not likely to be swayed by a Democrat in the first place, but I think I'm capable of listening to anyone's message with an open mind. Let's name a few that really way out nut cases might jump on and lay awake at night: He will rise from obscurity. He will speak boastfully. He will be blaspheme of God, his name, his dwelling. He will define a new era. He will change laws. He will confirm a covenant with many. He will be from the middle east but show no regard for religion nor his ancestors. He will promise to unite the world. Those are a few Characteristics the Anti-Christ will have according to the Bible.

I always wondered why MA continually embarrassed themselves by sending that man back to Washington again and again. He's the poster boy for term limits. His voting record in Washington may be vague, but is voting record in the Ill. Congress isn't. It's off the chart to the left. He's every bit as liberal as Hillary if not moreso. Moreso than even Mo Udall, Walter Mondale, Hubert Humphrey and that other socialist I can never remember. Starts with an M too. George M...... Of course George Romney was liberal too. I agree wth you on the real estate getting cheaper but not the top part which I know was tongue in cheek or just talk.
If you think real estate is bad here, check out Oxford, MS> or Old Metarie La... A friend wants a lot on St. Charles just a lot and it is priced $390,000 and he is bidding $90,000 and then moving to Mobile if a no go on his bid.

Hillary won't take anything less than the top spot. She was in the shadows, so to speak, during her husband's term, and she won't be relegated to relatively minor role of vice president. It's all or nothing for her. I don't think that Obama would take second billing either.

Speaking of her, that was one of the weakest responses I've heard in awhile. The "come join us" theme was rather offensive. They are Lieberman away from losing control of the senate, a Repubican is president and there's no guarantee about next November. The country usually votes middle of the road and both Dem. Presidential candidates are as far left as you can get. It may happen but history says it won't.

I think Obama is all flash and falsehood. He got his job in the Senate on his charisma, just so he could make his bid for the White House. I find his fussing with Hilly funny, since she did the exact same thing (ran for the Senate to get a shot at the White House). So far, as others have pointed out, his Senate record is nothing to write home about. He`s mostly voted "present" rather than "yea" or "nay", and when he has voted, it has been in the wrong (in my opinion) direction. Anybody endorsed by Ted Kennedy should give us pause. This one is only one cat hair higher than Hillary in my book, and that only because I really abismally dislike her and the possibility of her furthering the One World Government goals of the Cinton/Bush Establishment mafia. :) Remember the Mena Connection?

My prayer is that the U.S. will, as it has for over 200 years, (it's too dayum early in the morning to start subtraction) survive four more in spite of who's in the Oval Office. What are his plans? All I here is he's for change but he never tells us what that change is. If you look at his voting record (when he's actually voted) he's not really for change
The thing that scares me the most about OBAMA is the fact there is not much on which to guage a "performance" or to know what "he stands for or against". He has been in the Senate such a short period of time, a great deal of which has been spent campaigning for President. His voting record is as liberal as they come....not a bad thing if you are liberal....but since the majority of the nation in recent polling describes themselves as conservatives, then he, nor Hillary would be good for most of the nation. BUT.....look at the Republican choices....McCain is right behind these two on most issues. We could be in a big "mell of a hess"! Let's hope that the winner surprises us all...but, I am not going to hold my breath, personally. Call me pessimist, but I think the better word is REALIST.

I don't mind privatizing SS as long as they give me all I've got in already (can't happen). We just hope you're right on the other. With a Demi pres and Demi congress.................I will not be surprised.
Like we didn't have a Republican President and a Republican Congress? Really? Yet somehow it's going to be different with a Democratic President and Congress? Good grief.
The majorities are too slim to force anything through...as evidenced by the Democrats inability to get much of what they said they were going to do, done when they took over. That inability is not solely due to a Republican President.

Clinton came in with a dem congress... for the first 2 years... then the 'republican revolution' happened with Newt Gingrich at the helm, and that sealed that. Checks and balances!

Oh, I agree. I'm just saying when you have the same party pres and congress, that's a problem. Whether it be one side or the other. JMO.
Things start shifting too far one way.

Except most Republicans didn't have a problem with it when it was their party in both the Congress and the White House. When it was their agenda, it was OK.
I just get very tired of the...selective...memory.

I vote Republican normally but I'm intelligent enough to know we've got some idiots up there right now. I still think there should be term limits on each congressional seat not to exceed 8 years.
We need some new blood in congress. These old retreads are fighting with each other and trying to grab every last dollar they can for themselves. Until we have people that actually care about the country rather than their own pockets, we'll stay in this same old rut.

back when all of this started, in a previous thread, i made mention of supporting barrack, because i liked his message ... but thanks to a kind soul who encouraged me to re-think and dig a little deeper, i did and come to find out ... i'm no longer in support of barrack's stances on many things ... immigration being only one of them ... yes, it's great that they (dems in general) want to help the poor and help the middle class and help get our troops home and give us tax cuts, etc ... but i find, like most others, there is NO REAL PLAN of attack! it's a bunch of mud-slinging, i'm better than you are political bs rhetoric ... getting a straight answer out of any of them is like pulling teeth from a ducks head.
i've always believed that a straight talking business person ... male or female, black, white or purple with pink polka-dots ... would do our nation a great deal of good. i'm thinking about writing in Donald Trump!!!!! lol ... even with his filing for bankruptcy a few times in the past, he's still banking big time & he doesn't put up with any kind of bullcrap. but since this isn't practical, i'm now leaning towards Paul ... even though in the debate the other night he was pretty much ignored ... and he probably wont make it past super tuesday thanks to mccain & romney ... i like his straight talking, i like his strong, consistant voting record, i like the bills that he has presented and then got passed ... i really dig his support of homeschooling families & i really, really like that he's retire military. i really do NOT like how he's getting the short end of the stick so to speak ... he'd be so great for this nation, i think anyway :D

ATTA BOY, GIRL! You're entitled to vote for whomever you like, but stick you head in and ask question like you did. Barack makes more charasmatic speeches that are competely hollow than anyone I can remember. Who are the "poor?" Who are the "middle class?" Together they make up probably 85% of our country and always have. If you're appealing to the largest group you can, for their vote, you going to appeal to the rich? They can't elect you. I can't remember the stats but it's something like the top 6% of the wealthy, pay 90% of the taxes in this country. How much more are you going to take from them? When is enough, enough?
"We stand for change". Okay. What change? They don't say. A new era is dawning. No kidding? Happens every 4 to 8 years automatically. All puff no substance. They aren't talking about closing the border. Ending the war anymore either. I don't think "It's the economy, stupid." Economy is cyclical. Clinton took over a tanking economy from Bush, Sr. Bush Jr. took over a tanking ecomomy from Clinton. HELLO? They aren't saying anything and people are swallowing it. McBane is worse in my opinion. As Ann Coulter said last night, he's a bigger liar than Hillary. Heh heh heh. You liberals would have sat open-mouthed and then applauded Ann Coulter last night. Alan Colmes just sat back and giggled. She ripped McBane. Paul and Huckleberry won't be there. By process of elimination, I think the lesser of four evils is Romney, and I do trust him to do right.
