Someone told me that they'd seen a sign on the Taco Bell at Hardy & 49 that it's closing sometime in February. Real soon, anyway.

Anybody seen that or know anything about it?

The signs on the building say that on February 1 they will be closed for "rebuilding". Not remodeling. "Rebuilding".

Wow.

I wonder if they'll fix whatever it is that's leaking out of the building?

That building is as old as dirt. I remember going there when I was in high school, 20 some odd years ago. Past time for a redo.

I've eaten many a meal at that Taco Bell and I'm afraid that place needs to be bulldozed. :(

Wonder why they didn't take the opportunity after the kitchen fire there to do their "rebuilding".

I'm not there single-handedly keeping them in business. That's totally the reason, I'm sure.

Look at the bright side.

Those who dine at that Taco Bell will be making fewer runs to the border...I mean bathroom... now.

The gas was supposed to have been shutoff today. I too, was told that the building will be torn down so a new one can go up. Hopefully more parking, and a better exit will be in the plans as well.

Shutting off the gas at Taco Bell.

That thing has caught fire and been plastered over enough times that it's probably a lost cause. Besides, at this point the easiest way to degrease it is with a D-8 Caterpillar.

it's probably going to be a new building per Yum brands-

just like the new multibranded pizza hut/wingstreet building going up next to blockbuster across from applebees-

we need an a&w tho-

I wish they'd bulldoze the Checker's on Hardy....the customer service there used to suck, but I've heard that it's gotten better since the new manager has taken over....

Yeah, I hear they got some washed up football coach to take over the place. I hear the football team might actually WIN something this year.

I haven't been to Checkers in years, but they always had the best french fries!

Checkers hasn't had a GM since I left in August of last year. They hired one guy, but he only lasted 2 weeks before he quit. I was up there today to grab a cheap fish sandwich ($1), and the shift managers that are running the restaurant just don't quite have it. They can sling the food out, but that's about it.

The manager told me they will have a new GM starting next week or the next week. I hope they can get someone who'll get the flag changed. It's just sad to see the flag like that. I know they're almost $300, but I always made sure we got a new flag every 6 months. That's the stuff I see when I drive by there... all the little details that are out of place.

I always hated the fries. I never liked them. Now, the 'fully loaded fries', those, I can eat. Checkers fries with Ranch, Cheese and Bacon bits... yum!

I could eat about 10 fries, then I was tired of them.

I like the burgers, though.

When I think about it, I'm not really a 'fry' person. I can take them or leave them.

It's funny how people used to come and get just fries, like 2-3 order of large fries to eat either by themselves or with other fast food they'd gotten.

The markup is outrageous, though. A case of fries, 36#'s, costs a little over $17. There are 7.5 oz of fries in a large fry. Large fry sells for $1.89. Tons of money made on fries...

Cokes, the actual cost on a large coke is $.17 and it's sold for $1.79 or something like that.

Where can you get a liter of vodka for $6.00 in Hattiesburg...you mentioned MS-ABC but I am unfamilar with this name?

Yes, but the cost of all those commodities also includes building expenses, labor expense, taxes, advertising, etc. etc. etc. I've been involved in two small businesses, and "cost of goods" doesnt' really have that much to do with retail price. And if the person can't make a reasonable profit, there's no point in having a business.

MS-ABC is the Mississippi Alcohol beverage control.

They regulate how much liquor/wine comes into the state and who can sell it. They also forbid merchants from buying liquor/wine directly for any agent of any liquor or wine company (like they can in LA). The ABC is more trouble than they are worth, and if I ran another restuarant, it would be outside of Mississippi where I wouldn't have ABC headaches!

If it was, i'd buy stock in it and switch from hellsouth (read: bellsouth). Bellsouth has horrible customer service, stupid systems and if they ever got anything right in their miserable lives, i'd be shocked as hell. Investing in Bellsouth is like watching a plane crash. You know what's gonna happen when it falls, but it's kinda cool seeing the explosion when they hit bottom and have no survivors.
