Have you seen the guy that has been standing at the corner of 98 near the old Cachet building, holding the sign that says he needs to get to Florida.

First time I saw him was at the WalMart on 49. Funny thing is he seems to be going in the wrong direction. Plus he has been out there for over a week now. In that amount of time he could have walked to at least Alabama by now.

My wife and I saw him getting out of a truck over on W. 4th near the road that leads to Gander Mountain. He was talking with a friend and then headed down the road back towards Turtle Creek Mall.

It seems to me that since Katrina, we have had more of this, plus people coming up to you in parking lots, especially at WalMart, asking if you have a few dollars, so they can get to whatever city they are heading to.

About 2 weeks before Christmas, a lady came to my front door, asking if I had a few dollars to spare, because she had to get her and her children back to Waveland. She was walking up Adeline, knocking on peoples doors and trying to wave down cars. Then after New Year, I saw her at the WalMart on 49, trying the exact same thing. Kind of a long time trying to get a little money to go to Waveland.

Also, why is it that whenever people do this, they are always trying to get to an area that was devastated by Katrina, ie: Bay St. Louis, Waveland, or New Orleans.

Yup - we have seen both of them @ 49 Wally World. The lady needed money to get back to Waveland becuase she brought a friend up here and her friend skipped out without paying for gas as she had promised!

I heard about someone buying some dog food for a guy's dog that was out begging and the guy told her that he didn't want dog food - he wanted money! I know where that dog food would have ended up if it had been me!

The daughter and I were in the cracker barrel parking lot and a man approached us. He said, "Can you help me out?" Well, he scared me and I said, "No." We went on to our car. By the time we got our seatbelts on I noticed he was sitting by a woman on the porch of cracker barrel. I drove around to the back of the store and called the manager. He came on the phone and I said, "There's a man that approached me in the parking lot...." He stoppped me and said, "Someone else has just reported that and I will take care of it." I told him if the couple needed a meal I would give him (the manager) the money and buy their meal. He said, "Wait on the phone and I will go ask." A few minutes later he came back and said the man didn't want a meal. Just money. And he also said that while he was offering the man a free meal another couple overheard the conversation and offered a free meal also. And then man (visitor who wanted money) said, "Well, I'll get a cup of coffee." I believe it was a scam. The man should not approach a woman in a parking lot. That is very scary for me. I would have rather the woman approach me.

Yeah most of the time it is a scam. As far as why do people always need to get back to the parts devistated by Katrina....well that's just a way of making you think "oh man, poor person surely lost everything" it's a smart tactic.

I've said on here before with situations like these you just never know who you might be turning away but in situations where people walk up to you in a parking lot and scare the crap out of ya...well that's scary to me and I'd get away from that situation asap.

I saw a lady once in front of Walmart...had a booth set up wanting donations for money so her kids could take soccer, baseball, whatever it was. It wasn't like donations for the team..just the fees so her kids could play. The kids were there asking for the money as well which is sick to me. It's bad enough to have to humble yourself to ask for help but to make your kids do it..well, that's disgusting. She had on very nice designer clothes, so did her kids...nice jewelry on etc. All I could do was shake my head.

Ya know, things like this really irritate me. If you don't have the $ to pay for things like that for your children, the children need to be told NO!

Growing up there were many things I didn't get to do or take part in because we just didn't have the extra $. I'm not suffering because of it. I turned out just fine!

Begging for entry fee money???? Well I know in Petal, if you can't afford it they usually have some way of helping you out. I know of several kids that didn't have to pay because of their financial reasons.

Funny. I remember making a post a couple of months ago about a guy who approached me downtown begging for money. (A few people found it necessary to insult me and imply that I was a cold hearted bitch for not helping someone in need, but that's beside the point.) Lots of people had seen the same guy. I wonder if Sackett saw the same one.

Think about this: you'll have some random bum standing on the corner begging for work, food or money....they have no money for food but they always have money for the poster board and magic marker to make the sign. And something else that pisses me off is: If you are unemployed, broke and hungry...why in the hell would you have a damn pet with you thats gotta be fed? If you cant feed your damn self, dont get a dog that you cant feed either. It all makes me wanna throw a bottle at them and yell "get a job you son-bitch"!

Around Christmas time I was leaving the Wal-Mart on 49 when a woman approached me asking for gas money.

The National Guard was at the front of the store taking toy donations..the salvation army was there and there was a mobile home police unit in the parking lot. I felt like if she actually needed help she could ask them. So that's what I told her to do.

A guy approached me from behind in a dark parking lot while I was leaned over putting something in my saddlebag of the motorcycle and said, "Gee, that's a nice bike. You got any money?" I almost drew my firearm to shoot because I thought the bum wanted to rob me. After I put some distance between us he told me a long line of crap. So I told him, "Here's five dollars to leave me alone. That work for you?" Indeed it did. I'll never give him money again though. I'll just start yelling and acting a loon until he runs.

I still don't understand why any of you give these people money... they're SCAMMING you!!!

I still give them the money, even if they are scamming, I don't have much to spare, and sometimes I can't give, but If I do have a few extra dollars, I give it. The way I look at it, is I did my good deed, and gave, it's up to them if they want to go get something to eat, or go buy a crack rock with it. I did my part, with good intentions. Now if someone was to tell me hey I need a few dollars to buy a rock no I wouldn't give any money. I used to carry dog biscuits in my cars for the homeless people that walked with the dogs, I felt mostly sorry for them.

I saw a man outside of the mall today. A lady pulled over and handed him some money. When we drove back by that spot a few minutes later he was gone. I guess he collected enough for what he needed. He was holding a sign but he was turning towards the lady so I couldnt read it.
