I was reading in the city council agenda where they were goiong to appoint a Donald Franklin Brown as new CAO.
First, when did the city advertise for this position and I was under the belief that the COH council said the position was not needed? That is why they were not going to reappoint the chicken lady.
Second, why has the news media not been made aware of this? Seems like DuPree and others are sneaking this under our noses.
Third, with the woeful candidates that DuPree has appointed in the past, why have the voters in Hattiesburg not been able to comment on this in an open forum?
You guess is as good as mine.

Who is Donald Franklin Brown? Other than the new CAO, that is.

I have a copy of the agenda and I saw that earlier today...it will be interesting to see just where this goes and WHO this person is...I will be at the council meetings this week to see what goes on. IF the mayor would keep his butt in town he wouldn't need someone else to run the city for him. Like you I have NOT seen this position advertised...I check the city web site for job openings at least twice a week.

So, how does everyone feel about having a minister as a CAO?

IMO, we DO NOT need a CEO...IF the mayor needs help I can "possibly" see an admin. assistant and that would be about it...it doesn't matter if they are black or white...we didn't need a CEO when Mims was there, we don't need one now...especially IF the mayor would keep his butt in town to handle the day to day business...after all, that is what he was elected to do!
Today's City Council meeting will be interesting.

This person seems to actually be qualified. I think the minister part is incidental, as he's retired from other kinds of work. It would be hard to get somebody for an interim position, other than a retiree.

I was just thinking 'from the other way around' -

Who's JB and what is a CAO?
JB??? He's just this guy, ya know. :smt118
JD - Johnny Dupree - hiz'onor the Mayor.
CAO - Chief Administrative Officer.

And speaking of a new CAO, what has happened to Commadore, job wise? At some point I thought a remark was made she would go to Jackson with Wynn...anyone know, or care??
He needs to run the city as a Mayor, not delegate HIS job to someone else. Mims wasn't a part of the administration for the first few years-have they not noticed it is the 2nd in charge who usually screws the mayor up in the long run?

I never heard of a CAO. Is that different from a City Manager or just same job, different titles?
Is his majesty, Mayor Dupid, going to get re-elected? Ed Morgan is out of a job but he's on one heckuva losing streak. I've been encouraged to return to the Hub City and run for Mayor. Heh heh heh. We had a thread once: If we were Mayor or something. We had fun with that one.

We already have one minister in the H'burg political mix (KF)...I think it's time to go outside of the house of the Lord to pick a city employee...you know, separation of church and state and all that jibber-jabber...

I posted in another thread that I didn't see the need for a COA for a city the size of the Burg. Just seems like another way for Dupree to get a paycheck for another one of his friends. When is the next Mayor's election? As a new Burger, I will be anxiously awaiting it and hope for a change for the better.

I thought that in earlier statements the council said there was no need for a CAO and they could use the money some where else. What happened to change that ???

That is correct.
The Reverand hates idle gossip, and he tries to keep his under control
but is it true what I heard, that she may be on the Tully payroll?

It WILL be interesting to see how the council votes on this one. Not particularly the person but the position in general. It was NOT discussed last nite...only thing it was read on the agenda...no discussion what so ever. The BIGGIE last nite was the mess with code enforcement of properties etc.
The man that is proposed for the position was in attendance and seems to be very nice. He is probably mid to late 50's, possibly early 50's. I have been told he is very well educated and has experience in management. However, with that being said, IMO we still DON'T need a CAO, we need a mayor who will stay in town and DO HIS JOB!
I am in the process now of looking for a flak jacket to wear to the meeting tonite...looks like it will be needed with the discussions that are on the agenda to be voted on.

The City Council voted 3-2 to reject hiring Brown for CAO post. (http://www.hattiesburgamerican.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080205/NEWS01/80205047)
Hmmm, did they vote against him or the position?
MD, get back in here and fill us in! :)

The council voted against the position...all thought he was well qualified and a good man...the ones who voted nay, said they would like the extra money to be put towards the F.D. pay raises instead of a CEO.
I was surprised that there were numerous citizens from Palmers who agreed the money should spent for the F.D. I heard one man tell the mayor "IF you would stay at home and do the job you were elected to do, you WOULD NOT need a helper!" :smt023:kekeke:
I couldn't help but chuckle out loud!

Thanks for the report from the meeting MD, I wish more would make it to these. I'm glad that they are thinking more about F.D. raises and efficient uses for city money.

We wouldn't need a CAO if the mayor would stay in town. He got a masters at Jackson State on the city of Hattiesburgs time.

Actually, the Mayor got a doctorate at JSU.
He is Mayor DuPree, Ph.D.

Oh, Maggie -- last night you were joking about wearing a flak jacket, and now we have that horrible tragedy in Kirkwood. That gives me the shivers.
