Here is the latest!
I think this will be a good spot for the new jail...expect the folks in Palmers to start raising hell!
They gotta put it somewhere.

I pictured this wooded site being across 49 from the Multi-purpose center!
Please explain why Palmers Crossing would be raising hell? Am I missing something?

because it's a neighborhood and no one wants a jail next to them....

Click on the link above, then click on "Zoom Out" one time. The reason I asked about Palemrs Crossing was because the area they are talking about for the prison is between the 49 symbol and the 98 intersection (southwest of Palmers Crossing). There doesn't even seem to be any roads in this area let alone a neighborhood!

Oh okay... I wasn't sure the exact location. I had gotten the impression that it was right outside of Palmers and not a little ways away.

The HA says it's "just north of 98 East"... since it's not very specific, then it could be rather close to Palmer's. Hard to tell.

If you're looking at Mapquest, it will be on the east side of 49 about halfway between Sullivan Drive and R.C. Thomas Road. Hope that helps.

Speaking of palmers crossing one of the bos wants to put a big dollar golf course there at county expense. Already spending mega money on a walking track and other rec equipement for the area. Are there that many people there?

Mark my words, the residents at Palmers will be bitching big time about where the county is wanting to place the jail...IMO it is an ideal location...convenient but not that close to alot of houses...to me it would be more in the industrial park area and not residential...Palmers has alot of "activist" who are very vocal...see how long it takes to get them started!

For what it is, there are residents of Palmers that are trying to make Palmers a better area. It gets the sh!t end of the stick from Hattiesburg. Some of the kids go to FCAHS as opposed to HHS... I still don't get that one.
There are a fair number of home owners in Palmers, and nicer lower income looking homes, too... brick veneer, not the ramshackle homes that line Edwards and the areas around the police station. And some of the residents I've known are trying to keep it nice... I donno...
Here's what I'm not saying, but is in my mind: The people I know who live there have a different value system than I have. They see nothing wrong with drug dealing or shoplifting b/c it's how they were raised to see things. I don't know how you change adults. I am in no way saying that everyone who lives out there is like that. I know about 10 different households out there, and all 10 are like that. They live in different areas of Palmers... for what it's worth. it's possible that those are the only 10 like that.

There are so many druggies there that it is pathetic! Sanford is known as the drug capitol & trash dump of the state. The MAJORITY is like this, but I know that there are a few good people who live there.
