I have come up with several nominees for biggest chokers in sports history, inspired by the Patriots loss last night.

Here they are:

2007-08 New England Patriots...The high powered Patriots, who set numerous NFL records enter the Super Bowl 18-0 and favored by 12 points over the wild card New York Giants. Final Score Giants 17, Patriots 14.

1992-93 Houston Oilers In the 1992-93 wild card game against the Buffalo Bills, Warren Moon and the Oilers jump out to a 35-3 lead, only to lose 41-38 in OT. This was the biggest playoff comeback in NFL History.

1990-1994 Buffalo Bills -- While discussing the Buffalo Bills, they make our list too. The Bills make it to the Super Bowl four consecutive years, and lose four consecutive years -- the last three by blowout losses.

Late 1980s Denver Broncos -- under the leadership of John Elway, during the late 1980s the Broncos made three Super Bowls and lost all three to the Giants (39-20), the Redskins 38-10 and the 49s (55-10).

2007 Michigan Wolverines -- lose to I-AA Appalachian State 34-32 -- first time a ranked team has ever lost to a I-aa team.

1970s Minnesota Vikings -- Fran Tarkenton and the Vikings lost 4 Super Bowls between 1970 and 1977.

1968 Baltimore Colts -- Joe Willie Namath and the New York Jets stun the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in 16-7 Super Bowl 3. Joe Willie had guaranteed victory!

New Orleans Saints franchise -- Forty year history..no Super Bowl appearances and 2 playoff wins.

2004 New York Yankees -- Blow 3-0 lead in the ALCS to the Boston Red Sox.

Cleveland Indians franchise -- No World Series titles since 1948.

Atlanta Braves 1991-2005 -- Won 13 consecutive divisional titles and only one World Series.

Sorry about forgetting the Cubs, but as a Cubs and Harry Carey fan, I just had a momentary memory lapse.

What about my Pirates?? They have not had a winning season since I hit puberty.

Didn't the Pirates win a World Series or two in the early 70s? They strike me as having hard times over the past fifteen years, but not especially chokers..

I selected other and would like to nominate the 1964 Philadelphia Philles!

In 1964, the Philadelphia Phillies had a 6.5 game lead with 12 games to play - and lost the National League pennant to Saint Louis by one game, the worse collapse in major league baseball history. Oh did I mention they lost 10 games in a row in that span? The 1964 collapse remains a defining part of the Phil's legacy. I knew the story of 1964 only too well (I was ready to enter my senior year in High School living 50 miles from Philly) and the World Series tickets that were printed, but never used.:cry:

Heh heh heh. That ain't a choke. That's just sucking. A choke is when you should win and just choke and blow it, in my opinion. Example, the Braves didn't choke from 01 to present. They choked several individual times. But not every time in that time frame. Some of those WS games I knew they wouldn't win.:smt105

Yep. It wasn't the 2004 Yankees so much as it was the Yankees in the ALCS against the Red Sox. Yankees up 3-0 in games and let the Red Sox come back and take the next four to go to the World Series. THAT'S a choke. And the biggest one in all of sports history if you axt me.

As for the 14 consecutive division titles by the Braves and only one WS win, let's label that choke Booby (yeah booby) Cox.
