Hi, I'm glad I found this forum, and that it looks to be a busy one. My husband is in the military, and we have orders for Camp Shelby. I'm excited, since I've never lived in Mississippi before. Driven through a few times, though.

From what I have found online, the Petal school district seems to be a good one. Other than that, it's kinda hard to find anything on the Hattiesburg area online. We are looking to rent a house, and we have pets, so I hope thats not going to be much of a problem :smt105

Anyway.. we'll be finding out more about his assignment later on today... if anyone else can give us tips, rental info, etc.. I'd be much obliged!

Well, my husband's report date for duty is June 10th. So I can safely say we'll be there by the beginning of May.

nborz, I'm out of state and can't help on that, but you could put up an ad in our classified section here. We do how some very resourceful members here though and I'm sure some will come along soon and steer you in the right direction. Best of luck!

Welcome aboard. If you go to church please contact a church of your denomination and talk with the minister, priest etc. They are VERY good about finding suitable living arrangements. I would try to stay in west Hattiesburg, OakGrove or petal if you have children going to school. We have several private schools that are top-notch. Good luck and look in the Hattiesburg American classified for houses and if you have questions about the area you can pm me or No-Halo (I'm sure he wouldn't mind) and we both know the city fairly well. GOOD LUCK & WELCOME!

hi & welcome ... with your husband stationed at Shelby, you may want to look into the Dixie / McLaurin area ... they both are right outside the North & South Gates of Camp Shelby ... the schools in that area are good too from what I understand ...
