Obama wins big in Wash., Nebraska, La. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23068044/)
Illinois senator sweeps Saturday voting; Huckabee wins in Kansas

...The Illinois senator was winning two-thirds support in both caucus states and led by a 53-39 ratio in Louisiana with about a third of the precincts reporting. He was hoping to extend a string of Southern primary triumphs that already included South Carolina, Alabama and Georgia.

In all, the three states, plus caucuses in the Virgin Islands, offered 161 delegates.

Obama began the day with a slender delegate lead in NBC's count, which does not include so-called "superdelegates." He had 861 delegates to 855 for Clinton. Some 2,025 delegates are required to win the nomination at the national convention in Denver.

The Democratic race moved into a new, post-Super Tuesday phase as Sen. John McCain flunked his first ballot test since becoming the Republican nominee-in-waiting. He lost Kansas caucuses to Mike Huckabee, gaining less than 24 percent of the vote....

YOU SAID IT!

McCain and Obama cozy up on a bill?
Subject: McCains Bill to improve health care……in Mexico!

Some interesting information that was brought to my attention. This
should be on the front page of every newspaper in America. Especially
in an election year. This is just the highlights, for details follow
the link.

What would Americans think of a bill introduced in Congress that
required federal agencies to come up with a plan, not to expand health
coverage in the United States, but to expand health coverage in Mexico?
Impossible? Unthinkable? Wildly irresponsible?

... the senator who sponsored the bill is not on the verge of being
thrown out of office for this odious piece of legislation. No, the
senator who introduced the bill, Senator John McCain of Arizona, is on
the verge of locking up the Republican nomination to be our next
president.

— Barack Obama co-sponsored John McCain’s health care for Mexico
legislation.

I already called out dreamhippy on this shift in another thread. McCain wants to help protect our national interests by strengthening our public health infrastructure. We'll be better prepared in times of public health emergencies, and finding ways to get the Mexican gov't to provide for the health of its citizens will decrease the numbers coming over here for free medical care. I should point out that the bill only authorizes a binational study, and makes no provision for funding any programs.

Complicated problems like illegal immigration require multi-faceted solutions. This could be one of them.

Thanks. I can accept that. I'll have to see the solution, but seems to me closing our borders will solve a lot of our health care overload here quickly. I hate to think we have to get involved with Mexico's business at all. But let's wait and see.

And I might add, illegal immigration would not be a complicated problem if we had competent people in the INS and had sealed our borders. I don't blame the illegals. I blame our government from Reagan forward. Not the President's. Washington.

Closing the borders is an unreachable goal. We also need to make it less desirable to come over. If Mexicans can find decent health care and a living wage in Mexico, there will be much less of a reason to come here.
