Well, folks, here we go again...........:smt103

Pay attention today as we move toward evening.
The National Weather Service is predicting that
the line of storms moving southeasterly from
Texas and Arkansas will impact our area later this
afternoon and evening.

NWS says that the area of South MS from US 84
south is more likely to see high winds and possible
tornado activity.

Stay aware. Be prepared. Be safe...................

CB, looking at the regional radar and the way the line is acting, I would say that we won't be as lucky as we were the last front. I'm thinking we will see some strong winds with heavy rain....even if it doesn't last hours.

As for the 'Dorthy and Toto' storms, they are always possible with this type of front coming through with the strong southerly flow coming off the Gulf ahead of it......... Notice the winds this morning & the building humidity. The cold front moving quickly and over-running this warm air sets up conditions favorable to storms....

I'm not a gloom and doom soothsayer, just a prudent weather watcher. Check back around lunch and we'll see how things are shaping up then.

I am still willing to be that I get a call from the kid's school that they are not having extended care or will be dismissing early. It is just rain people!

Butterball
02-12-2008, 09:10 AM
I'd be willing to bet on rain by 2 p.m. and heavier stuff by 4..........

Yeah, the school's seem to be playing it as safe as they can and

put the kids first????? It works a real hardship on parents to turn

them out early and many times it's safer to be in the school buildings

than in transit or at home; not to mention the parents running all over

to get the children and dash back home or to work.........

It's horrible when the parents run to the schools to check kids out because of weather when the kids are probably safer at the school....then some actually go get their kids in the middle of a storm when they are definitely safer at school than in a vehicle on the road!!! We've had rain storms and rocky weather forever!!! We live in SOUTH MISSISSIPPI where if you don't like the weather stick around because it's going to change!!! No need to panic because we can't change it ourselves!!!

It takes a while to get the bus drivers back. Since we all run on the same buses, when you let lower go home early, we still have to wait until all those kids are delivered at home and the buses to get back here before we can dismiss and the high school has to wait until our kids get loaded and the buses get there to pick them up. I think the reason they are trying to get the kids out a little early is because earlier in the year, the middle school bus riders got stuck at the high school until the storm passed and some of the bus riders didn't get home to nearly 6:00.

I think it got too late to let kids out...if they could have gotten the bus drivers there in time, they could have delivered them home before the storm hit.....but can't be transporting them in the middle of the storm.

In other locations, I got a traffic alert that down trees on I-20 in Pelahatchie and Hwy 80 is closed due to downed trees.

Lips, I think the system you need to be paying attention to is the one coming out of southeast Walthall County, as it may track across Marion County into Lamar County in the Purvis area.

This is speculation on my part and not based on anything the weather officials have said.
