Called him a vigilante and took him off of the Net Team. He had been the leader for years. Does anyone have any info on this? Is he also informing officers to not go in "certain neighborhoods"?

Uh-oh. Sounds like the Chief may have joined the wrong church.

Why couldn't they go in certain neighborhoods????

That's a good question. I wish I had the answer. Do we have any officers that'll let us know?

Kinslow? Did I miss something? I thought he left the PD years ago. I thought the net leader was Keith Crawford. Who are we talking about here?

This happened a few weeks ago and I found out about it today from someone who is on the team and very disappointed.

Well, who is it, then?

I didn't ask his name. I wouldn't know him anyway. The discussion was about the chief and if he is going to fall in line or not.

Sorry to have messed this up. I knew that Kinslow worked there and didn't know if he still did. I would never say anything bad about him. It seemed like the NET was not afraid to go in any neighborhood when he worked there. :smt023

Oh pinky I wasn't talking about you saying anything bad, girl. I was just hoping no one would say something bad about him. I like him and his wife.

Jim Kinslow has been the commander of a drug task force for several years. He ran for sheriff in Jeff Davis Co, but lost. I hear he is Ben Ford's new chief deputy up in Covington Co., but I haven't seen him and can't say for sure.

If you're a cop, and you're afraid to go into a certain neighborhood, you're in the wrong job.

If you're a police chief, and you don't want your officers to go into a certain neighborhood, you're in the wrong job.

Just my humble opinion, which was developed over 30 years of NOT being in law enforcement.

Jim Kinslow has been gone from HPD for at least 4 years. He retired as the Assistand Chief from Hattiesburg

The same with firefighting DTS... a man or woman that looses that fear (healthy respect for the fire or crooks in PD case) becomes dangerous to himself and his partners.

This is so true but you have to remember, there was a different mayor and police chief at the helm back then...there was ALOT that was different back then! Think back, you actually had folks that worked there for years and years...now the average seniority time for officers is approx. 5 years...not 20,25 years as before.

In the real scheme of things "most" of the officers that are there now are "rookies." Although some may have 4 or 5 years under their belts there is NO comparison in the experiece that was there. So far they seem to be doing better but they still have alot to learn and alot of growing up to do.

You'd think the local media would have reported on such a leadership change, if it indeed happened.

Oh, wait. We're talking about it here. We're MyHattiesburg On Your Side. :kekeke:

Side dont get upset just yet. None of us know exactly what happened so until some of our cops come on the scene and fill us in I wouldnt get too upset. I hope for Hattiesburg that the Net Team and Mr. Crawford are all still intact, because they are what this city needs. They do one Heck of a job.

I don't know but pinky asked was it kinslow.

Jim Kinslow left H.P.D. years back, yes I do agree, Jim was one of the better officers with great experience. Jim would quit again if he was there and told to do his job incorrectly. That is why so many veterans left like they did.

Jim Kinslow is Ben Ford's Chief Deputy in Covington County...I dont know anything about the NET thing:smt102 :clap: Covington County sounds like the place we ought to be, I wouldn't mind these men protecting me. These men won't let crime get out of hand, They'll do their job and take a stand. :bowrofl: Oh yeah, they were both good H.P.D. guys.

Yes the NET Team is still in tact, Lt. Keith Crawford was the commander but has now been moved to Federal Liason Officer, a new position created under Bolton. There have been a lot of promotions and movements at the PD that have just not taken effect yet. Just one of the shakeups that are to come with Bolton.

They liason to the feds.:kekeke:

I figure it would be something along the lines of dealing with information in federal cases that originate at the p.d...like robberies..kidnappin's....ATF stuff and such and such.

I still say Bull! The Net team was the best thing that the HPD had going. Every time you watched the news another drug bust went down. If officer KC was doing a good job why remove him? I know for a fact the pride that Keith took in the net team, and how hard he worked to try to keep them togeather during Wynn's administration. If this is what we have to look foward to with Bolton it is a sad time in Hattiesburg.

WDAM reported this on Thursday. It hasn't been in the news?paper yet.
Crawford is the Federal Liason Officer as mentioned above. No longer in charge of NET... but his crew is still on NET. Get my drift

Burch, Denny and Odom are promoted to Sergent. Carlos Cook, McGinty, Traxler, Causey and Fleming are promoted to Lieutenant.

Lt. Hooker is heading up a new Task Force.

As mentioned above. The HPD guys aren't afraid to go down the street or into your neighborhood. But IF the Chief gets phone calls about folks being arrested then it keeps his phone quiet if he tells the guys in blue to stay away from certain areas. Right??? Ain't much on the streets changed. Just a few of the HPD faces aren't there... Temporarily

And that's this hour's Broken News.

The WDAM report said that Keith Crawford has been reassigned to the position of federal liaison officer.

"Reassigned" does not sound like a promotion to me (although I hope it is).

What's going on?

I think you are right, Kitty. I do not think he was "promoted" unless he moved up in rank, which I do not believe is the case.

Reassigned seems more like it to me.

In all fairness to the HA, IT WAS in the paper a couple of days ago..it was just a small article on about page three or four. Not much at all but it WAS there, I read it.
