Anyone here have a particular doc in Petal they swear by? Just a family practitioner.

Do the docs in Petal take walk-ins, or do they stay fairly booked?

I really like Dr. Lovitt (at Petal Family Practice Clinic) and have used him for a long time. Just be prepared for one LONG, LONG wait. He is always running late - but the reason is because he actually listens to his patients and goes over a lot of angles relating to your particular problem, symptom, medications, etc. I think that he is worth the wait.

There is another doctor at that clinic that I will never go to again. He pops in, barely looks at you, writes an Rx and leaves.

Petal Family has an after hours clinic for walk-ins. I would call for an appointment if you need to go during the day. If going to After Hours, I call and find out which doctor is working before I go.

I like him already. Do you remember his name?

I'm healthy, so far as I can tell. He sounds like the least likely to dispute that.

Seriously, though. I'm not a fan of going to doctors, so the shorter the wait the better. I don't need to connect or have a conversation with him.

Yes, I'm very familiar with the "pop" in dr. that just writes prescriptions for pills. I too, have decided not to ever go there if he is the only one working ... like on weekends or afterhours, if i'm sick i have my wife stop and see which dr. is working.

I have been using Dr. Lovitt since moving to Petal 2 years ago. He does spend time with each of his patients to make sure they understand everything. He is not pushy. To avoid long waits get your appt. first thing in the morning or just after lunch.

My children would rather go to him than a pediatrician.

Although, the Dr is great the office staff is a bit snooty and not friendly at all.

I like Dr. Lovitt also and have used him for a number of years. I have personally had two specialists compliment him after he found something that the specialists said GP's usually don't find... I too will go to urgent care or somewhere else rather than see one particular doctor in the office.
By the way, Dr. Lovitt has been a little better about wait time recently.

I see Dr.Conerly He's a Good Doctor with one heck of a busy schedule!I like Dr. Conerly too.
If you can catch him after hours he can spend more time with you like he used to.
I really liked Maria Soriano when I could see her after hours in Petal. If she was Family Practice she would be my primary.
I also like Sarah Wainwright - after hours - if she's still there.
I used Glen Campbell and I really liked him but he moved to Hattiesburg Clinic West. That's just too far out-of-the-way for me.

I currently use Mike Weaver at HeartSouth in Petal.
I think he's a good doctor.
I think he's a smart doctor.
Some folks comment that he doesn't have a 'bedside manner' - but I really don't know what that means - or care. He manages to put up with my cantankerous old a$$ so I'm sticking with 'im. ;)

I always request nurse practitioners. They are more than willing to help you out and they don't try and tell you how to run your life. I remember when Jr. had his 4-wheeler wreck and I took him to the ER....the doc was good I have to say. Checked him out really thoroughly and got the X-rays and all that stuff goin'.....then he says. I know a daddy that needs to get rid of a 4-wheeler........keep in mind I had 2 sets of grandparents of Jr.'s in the room and my wife. I answered him like this. "Doc, if it was your kid and your kids fourwheeler that would be your choice. I didn't come here to seek your advice on parenting. I came for your medical help. There was silence....I mean eery silence....then this hot nurse come in and I settled down a bit.lol..

Hattiesburg Clinic is about to build a new place on the E.G. parkway. Don't know what it all consists of though.

So is it just the rushed, impersonal nature that seems to bug you all, or is he just not terribly good at his job?

Blockhead, he is not good at his job. He just wants to be done with you and move on. I like both Lovitt and Weaver. It really just all depends on your insurance and which is in your network or not.

Ah, yes. Insurance companies telling us who we can and can't have as doctors. That's another matter for another thread, though.

Thanks for the info, ladies and gents. It's appreciated.

I too like Sarah Wainwright. Unfortunately, she primarily works at the Sumrall clinic. I've seen Dr. Heath and liked him too. They are both good choices in addition to Dr. Lovitt.

Blockhead, if you're looking for drive thru doctoring, go to Immediate Care. It's fairly good, short wait time, Rx and out the door in about 30min-1hour. You don't know the doctor, they don't know you. Nice and easy.

Now, if you want someone who's looking out for you, not just curing your symptoms, go to Dr. Lovitt. He's great. He's on top of his game. I was talking to him about my billirubin and he picked Gilbert's out of his mind, which is pretty close to what I think I may have. The doctor at USM clinic didn't do that. He didnt' really know what Gilbert's was... which kinds unnerves me. But he's a drive thru doctor, IMO. Good for some pills and antibiotics, but that's about it.

Called Immediate Care. They say they only deal in ER type situations. Still, if I show up and hand them my insurance info, I imagine they'll find a way to get paid.

Where is that Lovitt/Nameless Doc office? Lived here all my life and I couldn't even begin to tell you.

Where is that Lovitt/Nameless Doc office? Lived here all my life and I couldn't even begin to tell you. It's behind and across the street from the back side of the big Dollar General on 42 (former K&B Drug building) .
Petal Family Practice/Hattiesburg Clinic.
It's on the street that angles off of 42 where Wayne's Grocery used to be.

Blockhead, the Immediate Care across Hwy. 49 from Shoney's in the Burg is an excellent place to go. I go there when my doc is out of town and I get sick. It is a lady doc and she is very thorough and the prices do not seem to be exhorbitant (sp) to me. (the clinic is directly behind Walgreen's and across from Shoney's) The wait is usually very short. Good luck, hope you feel better soon.

Hello everyone...I'm new here as I stumbled on this site looking for a phy assist who was named in this post...found the site and joined. Hope everyone is well having a really nice (and cool) evening. I was hoping someone could expand on the information on Marc Finch, as he was my phy at NAN. We went on a job out of town for a few months, and when I got back...he was gone. I hear he is working for a Dr. Weaver??? in Petal, but when I called there today, they said no. Can anyone help me? I hate to take someone else's thread, but I really like this man, and would appreciate knowing where he is. Thanks ! *grin*
