I know Ron Paul came close a few weeks ago. But, are there any other candidates coming to MS before the primaries are over? I know we're small to no potatoes, but I was just wondering.

I wouldn't mind hearing a few of them speak, in person, if our schedules line up.

the candidates will be at Ole Miss for a debate later in the year.

Yeah, but that venue is going to be gone... or is already gone.

I don't really want to ever step foot on Ole Miss if I can help it.

I imagine that's all we're gonna get.

My bet is that at least on the Democratic side we will see candidates in Mississippi. Mississippi is the only state which will be holding a primary on March 11th, which will give us the state to ourselves for a few days. Of course, on the Demo side, I do think Obama would hold a prohibitive edge. African Americans frequently win contested Democratic primaries over white candidates at the statewide level, so I see no reason that would be different here -- especially given Obama's wins already in Alabama, Louisiana, Georgia, South Carolina, and Virginia -- all of which have lower BVAPs than ours.

If Huckabee can beat McCain in Texas (polls are very close there now), we may see one or both of them during that week as well.

Hubbarister....are you an Ole Miss alumnus? I noticed your "groan", and it caused me to wonder if you might have been just a little sensitive to that comment because of your affiliation with the school.

Yes, I hold a Bachelor's in Public Administration from Ole Miss...class of 1996. To balance things out, my wife is finishing her degree in USM, hopefully in December.

To be fair, hubba, it is a horrible place.

Careful, he may "groan" you, too, if you express any sentiment that is negative towards Ole Miss. Quite frankly, I like Southern Miss, Ms. State, as well as Ole Miss, BUT, IF I did not, I don't think I should be "groaned" just because I express an opinion different than yours.

Let's be fair, many USM people hate Ole Miss because Ole Miss won't play them in football, and because of the perception that USM hasn't gotten a fair cut of the pie in the past when it came to funding. Perhaps some of that is grounded in reality, but that is not a reason to hate an entire university, football rivalries aside.

In truth, Ole Miss has one of the most beautiful campuses in America, and Oxford is a wonderful college town. The Square alone is worth a visit. Certainly, from its large number of Rhodes Scholars over the years to the Phi Kappi Phi chpater, Ole Miss has established a solid reputation academically. Perhaps that reputation is no small measure why the Ole Miss campus is hosting a Presidential debate this year. And, by the way, the Grove experience on game day is one like no other.

And, Ole Miss is also one of the safest campuses in the nation. During my time there, in spite of not owning a car, and being best desribed as scrawny then, I never felt unsafe.

I never attack USM on here, because in truth I am now an adopted USM fan, and I want to see USM move ahead in all aspects. I have a vested interest, like many of you, in its well being and future. In turn, I'd like to hear less in terms of petty attacks against my alma mater.

I don't ever desire to set foot on Ole Miss for many reasons. Smaller reasons are some of the ones you mentioned above. Absolute lack of interest is at the top of the list, though. For me, grads and supporters of Ole Miss are braggarts with no substance. Ole Miss is this, and Ole Miss is that... I don't care. A college does not, or rather, should not make you who you are. Ole Miss is not better than all other colleges. I don't get where the attitude comes from.

Good points.

But some folks just don't like Ole Miss because, well, they just don't like Ole Miss.

I certainly hope that I get to meet Ron Paul. I don`t care to meet any of the others.
