My dog got out of the house during the storm on the 12th. He maybe in the Adeline St / Avenues area. But he could have gotten further than that. If you see him, please contact me at 601-550-5465.

Sackett, what kind of dog is he & what is his name?

He is basically a Terrier Mix. His name is Malibu. He does not bark at all, and has never bit anyone. He is a former shelter dog, that when he was found, seemed to have been treated very badly. He has been in our family for over a year and is missed very much. He does not like bad weather, and hates being locked up. So if anyone has him in there house, he will tear up doors if he is locked out of a room where people are. We have searched and searched for the last few days with no sign of him. It is possible that someone has picked him up and taken him home. At this time he has not be brought to the local shelter and has not been turned in to any vet offices. Also, thankfully, we have not seen him lying on the side of the road.

He is microchipped and has been reported missing with Petlink or Crystal Tag, the company that the chip came from.

So how does the chip work? Can they use it to locate him, or does someone have to find him and take him in?

So how does the chip work? Can they use it to locate him, or does someone have to find him and take him in?Someone has to take him in and then they 'scan' with a hand held unit to get a read out of the serial number programmed into the micro chip.

Someone has to take him in and then they 'scan' with a hand held unit to get a read out of the serial number programmed into the micro chip.

Then they can contact the owner, I'm assuming?

Well I hope someone finds him.

Well I hope someone finds him.Well - I never looked into the exact details - - let's see - -

When a lost pet is found, it can be scanned at an animal shelter or the clinic of a participating veterinarian. The animal’s identification number is called into HomeAgain (1-866-PET-ID24), and the pet owner is notified immediately. Here (http://www.homeagainid.com/homeagain/faq.cfm) is the article that excerpt came from. The lost dog I picked up on 40th st awhile back had tags with both the vet's name and the name of the company the dog had the chip from. I contacted them both and the owner came and picked her up within an hour of my call.

Hopefully your luck will be someone will do the same for you. When you do get her back, please put a collar on her with all info (our dogs collar has his name and our phone number woven in so if the other tags come off, hopefully this will be what saves him) He was also a "throw away" that we have had for 9 years ....so I know the heartbreak you have for now.

Ya know, just thinking about it -
a collar like that seems a good idea to me.
Not everyone who takes in a 'stray' will think to have the critter checked for a microchip.

I never have understood why people pick up dogs who look well-taken care of and obviously belong to someone who's probably worried sick about their lost family member. It would be one thing to pick up a stray dog who isn't safe running aroudn the neighborhood and then do everything possible to find it's owner, like put up signs, ad in the newspaper, etc, but it's something totally different when people pick up a dog and automatically decide it's theirs.

When I was a kid, my bro and I went on a looong walk in the woods behind our house. Someone's pet decided to follow us home, even though we tried to get it to go back. He probably would've gone straight home when we went inside, however the neighbors decided to claim him as their own. He stayed in their fence about two weeks when we noticed an ad for a missing dog in the paper. Everything fit his description, all the way down to the collar he was wearing, so my mom called the number and the owners came and picked him up.

If a dog looks well fed and well groomed, no matter how great of a dog he is, please at least attempt to find his owner. Someone's probably worried sick about him and he's not yours. Now, if the animal looks abandoned and abused, that's a different story.

I really hope you find your pet....

That's what has always worried me about mine. Although they both have microchips, if someone were to steal them, would they seriously take them to the vet? They're in excellent condition, they'd probably ignore their future wellbeing from that point forward, which makes me sick to think about!

The dog I referenced was running down the middle of 40th street and would be hit by a car. Fortunately she came right to me and willingly got into my car so I could look at her tags and start the search. I agree that an effort should be made and I think that most peope do that are animal lovers. Sorry you had to experience the other kind.
