I just went down 7th street and got stoped by the redlight at Hercules. In its prime Hercules employed about 1500 taxpayers. Today I bet not 50 people work there. The gates are closed that lead into the plant, so why do they nead a redlight! Think how much time and gas that a redlight waste. DOWN WITH THE REDLIGHT!!!!!

That light goes on a flashing cycle (yellow on 7th) at night. I don't know the hours, but it is flashing @ 10:30 PM when I go to work and not flashing when I come home around 7:40 AM. There are still a few tankers going in and out of there, as well as construction (destruction) vehicles, but it does seem if it needs to change, it could be controlled by the guard house!

I never stop at that light. I check to make sure nothing is trying to cross. But 99% of the time, I go right on through.

I use that light as a stop sign. Once I see there is nothing coming, I go.

That has to be the oldest stop light in Hattiesburg. I mean, c'mon...aren't the bulbs in that thing banned already or what. Prolly uses 100 mwatts of power a day.

Yea that red light is like me.. old, past its time, and worthless.

One of the few redlights in the area to survive Katrina, too.

A redlight that old, that has survived storms and the like should be taken down and preserved somewhere downtown as a relic of days gone by. :smt023

Ditto on using as a stop sign. Is rather aggrevating and should be removed. Hmmm, true about being preserved as a relic. It is a shame that there is not a museum of sorts that has items that represent the history of the Burg. Maybe the train depot could serve a purpose after all. Or is there such such a place already?

I know that the light is at least 50 years old, if not older. I think that it should be taken down & put into some kind of museum. My Daddy worked at Hercules for many, many years. At one time, Hercules employed ALOT of people. It is a shame that it is just a skeleton of its former self...:smt009

I was told that the red light belongs to hercules and the city can not enforce it if someone happens to run it..

It's hanging over a city-owned roadway. I wouldn't press my luck if I were you.

i personally think it should be taken down. i travel that street twice a day and it is a waste of time and money to have to stop for no reason.
