Guy in a Firebird tried to beat the train at the county line on Peps Point Rd, the train clipped the rear of his car as he crossed the tracks. Minor injuries.

That might be a good place to put the Hercules red light (http://www.myhattiesburg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26892).

I don't know what it takes for someone to never try out running a train but I saw a Deadly Crash in Ellisville and I stop at RR crossing. It took having seen the Horror but it worked! I hope the person is ok but lets not be tring to out run a train again!!!

I was on the scene this afternoon if that train would have hit 2 foot more towards the front of the car we would still be out there looking for pieces of that dude. he is very lucky to have walked away from that. people just never learn but the train always wins

The tag light violation is a ticketable offense but one normally used as a probable cause measure to stop a vehicle if you suspect suspicious activity such as dui or drugs.

This is just me talking... if I pull you over for a tag light violation and find nothing else wrong then I just ask you to replace the bulb and have a nice night.

Yeah, I don't know when people will learn not to try and beat a train. Stupid. I've seen what happens to someone who doesn't make it, and it ain't pretty. Those things look like they are going slow, but their size makes it misleading. If you can see the train, stop, period.

Totally off topic, but what, exactly, is the purpose of the tag light?

Follow me on this one. If you're close enough to read the tag, at night, and the car is moving, shouldn't your headlights be on in your pursuing car? Are the headlights in the cop car not strong enough to light up the tag?

Just curious.

That's ok, I hijacked the thread early to. Good points you bring up and this may need to be moved, but my experience when I worked for a truck line, was, if there was a light that was meant to be burning, it had better be burning or the driver could receive a violation from DOT.

Even if it served no useful purpose. Vanity (at least that's what we called them) lights that surround the bottom side of the doors and the top cab of the truck, were pretty much for show, but if anyone of them were burned out, a violation/citation could be given if they were pulled over.

Ok lets say you're at home one evening enjoying some bantering on MH and you hear a strange noise outside in your garage. As you peep out of the door blind into your garage you see 2 figures running away with your prized stuffed dolphin, you also see a vehicle parked at the end of your driveway to which said dolphin bandits are running towards. You tell your wife to call the cops as you run out the door in an attempt to aquire the tag number of the dolphin getaway car but low and behold their tag light is burned out and you forgot to grab a flashlight on the way out. This is why it is state law to have a tag light, not because the cops have poor headlights.

Hopefully you'd be able to give an accurate discription and direction of travel of the dolphin-nappers because without the tag number chances are slim on catching them.

Ummm...couldn't you just tell the cops to look for the car with a shot-out back window and bullet holes all in the trunk?

It never fails but when we're given a description of a certain vehicle to look for after an incident occurs we'll see no less than 20 of the same kind of make, model and color....even with bullet holes.
