"Winning" Super Bowl shirts end up in Nicaragua (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/shirts_dc;_ylt=AlTcdXHGqIn0TKeb9gbuoCDtiBIF)

MANAGUA (Reuters) - Shirts and caps proclaiming the victory of the New England Patriots -- when the American football team actually lost the latest Super Bowl -- have ended up in the hands of poor Nicaraguan children.

Hundreds of shirts and caps, which had been manufactured in advance to celebrate the Patriots' expected victory over the New York Giants, were handed over to children in the southern city of Diriamba.

Wow. Not only were the Patriots losers, they made a bunch of innocent kids in Nicaragua a bunch of losers by giving them a bunch of crap that nobody in the US would wear.

Why not just write "We're stupid!" on them. Same thing.

With all due respect, WileBill, I must tell you from first hand experience that those kids were overjoyed to receive those shirts! I have been down to Nicaragua 8 times on mission trips & I am here to tell you that the poorest people in the Hattiesburg are are rich beyond compare to those people!

But I bet they'd be a lot more grateful if they had gotten some Giants shirts. Being associated with winners does a lot for your self esteem.

Chances are they don't even know what the shirts represent anyway. They could care less. They are just grateful to have a shirt.

Chances are they don't even know what the shirts represent anyway. They could care less. They are just grateful to have a shirt. You are so right! 99% of them cannot speak English. You see teenage boys wearing shirts with Spiderman, Scoobydoo, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Mickey Mouse, you name it. All that they care about is it is a new shirt. We are so blessed & alot of people don't know it, or just take it for granted. I have always said that we need to load our kids up & take them down there just one time. They think that they will curl up & die if they don't have the Nike shoes or the American Eagle shirt--well they need to see kids who have NO shoes & a dirty rag of a tee shirt that is more holes than shirt!:smt086

Firefly, I am so glad you responded!!! And you are right! They don't give a flip what the shirt says... to not only get a shirt, but a NEW CLEAN shirt that has not been worn- until you've been there, you don't understand the joy that something like that brings to these people. I'm very glad that something useful was done with these shirts.

Makes me wanna go back on a trip there... it's been too long since I last went.

I wonder if they sent the caps, too. When our church goes on mission trips they always collect caps and give out to all the kids. They love them.
