Someone told me today that the principal and his wife had a kid at Alpha Christina School and they haven't held class for two weeks. Is this true? If it is, is it legal?

Where is Alpha Cristian School?
Mt. Carmel Baptist church on Main St.
It's "private school"... kids that are expelled from school AND alternative school, usually end up there. Sometime parents don't want to have their kids go to alternative school even if it's an option... so then the parents just send the kid straight to Alpha.

I had never heard of it. So it's privately funded I assume.

hmmm.. yeah, pretty much. But the have several grants that provide "scholarships" to the kids that can't afford it.
biting my tongue, sitting on my hands, I'm gonna keep my "mouth" shut on the rest of my opinion of this "school".....

I just don't think the kids are taught very much. And it's not a safe environment either... there are no safety precautions whatsoever. Anyone off the streets could just walk in and do as they please.

Sort of like a McDonald's play palace then I guess.

I know Alpha Christian School participates in Mississippi Private School Association athletics.
I am not familiar with MPSA accrediting standards or their associational guidelines for school operations.
I suspect most of those things lie with the respective school's board of directors/trustees.

All the students must have ADHD or something.

Said person said they'd seen principal physically punch a student in the chest and also been invited to paddle a kid when she wasn't employed there.
She said she taught there for a bit, but quit because it was stupid. Said she could smack kids around and she liked that.
I just listened like I usually do when someone is showing how dumb they are...
One student I had at the beginning of the year was being sent to alternative school. Her mom didn't want her to go there, so she tried to get her into Sacred Heart, but they said she was too far behind or something. She went to Alpha. I've also had a couple of kids transfer into my classes from Alpha. Let's just say that when I ask where they're coming from and hear "Alpha Christian" I shudder.

Smacking kids around?
Can DHS intervene in a private school?

I "suppose" anything is possible since it apparently belongs to Mt. Carmel! I have been told that the Fairley's or family members are involved in the school...don't know anything about the school or how it is run though.

I seem to recall reading a story in the HA recently...pretty sure it was a story in the sports section about Alpha Christian's athletic teams...anyway, the story noted it was interesting that Kenneth Fairley was one of the students at HHS in the early 1970s when public school desegregation was fully implemented, and now he is involved in a predominately black private school that has joined the MPSA...an organization that was established initially as a means to avoid school desegregation.

Smacking kids around?
Can DHS intervene in a private school?Anywhere a kid is DHS can intervene... I would certainly hope there is none of the physical beatings CB said was going on. That is pure criminal and there is no protection for someone doing so... This makes me sick to my stomach thinking of this...

unfortunately, just because DHS can intervene, doesn't mean they will :(

Isn't that where some of the players in the flipping scheme were employed? Some of them used that on the w-2's to obtain loans, if I'm not mistaken. :smt009

THANK YOU for saying that! I have NEVER gotten any help from DHS...I have worked many cases and would call and they NEVER got involved no matter how bad the cases were. IMHO they are useless and should be disbanned. I once had them tell me to turn two little boys over to their convicted drug dealing father because their mom had abandoned them. SAY WHAT? They told me to do that or take them home with me there wasn't anything they could do!

Pinky I think you are correct...like I said I am pretty sure the Fairley's daughter is/was over the school.
I believe that it is Kenneth Fairleys niece who is the head-mistress (principal) of this so called school. Yes, I do also believe that the mortgage flippin scheme did involve people from that school, if a little more investigating were done I bet a few more names would have been involved. The Fairley boys took the rap for all of them if you ask me. Daddy let them do it too, wonder why?
