View Full Version : Farrakhan Praises Obama as ‘Hope of Entire World’

CHICAGO — In his first major public address since a cancer crisis, Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan said that presidential candidate Barack Obama is the “hope of the entire world” that the U.S. will change for the better. The 74-year-old Farrakhan, former leader of the black Muslim group, never endorsed Obama outright, but spent much of his nearly two-hour speech Sunday to an estimated crowd of 20,000 people praising the Illinois senator.
“This young man is the hope of the entire world that America will change and be made better,” he said. “This young man is capturing audiences of black and brown and red and yellow. If you look at Barack Obama’s audiences and look at the effect of his words, those people are being transformed.”

I suspect O. would've been happier without the support of a notorious racist. Would be like McCain getting support from David Duke. Some friends you just don't need.

The world would be better off without Farrakhan for sure. Anyone remember the million man march? He called Newt Gingrich a 'cracker'. But he can't be racist. For that matter and some of you may hate me for this but the world would be better without Newt too!

The Nation of Islam, as far as I can remember, is pretty far from true Islam, and in fact doesn't even practice many of the main tenets of Islam. So, I think that the "muslim" tag on this thread is quite a bit misleading.

If Farakan likes McDonald's or Crescent City, are you going to stop eating at those places because he likes them? What if he's for math education? Is it tainted then?
Why does Farakan's endorsement mean anything? It's not like Obama's out there dropping Farakan's name.

The point of the comparison would be that Farrakahn's endorsement of Obama means just about as much as Farrakahn's endorsement of a particular restaurant...nothing. One is as ridiculous as the other.

Thank you for helping my stupid ass comprehend that. I repeat my statement. One does not endorse someone for office who does not share the same views. I don't care if they both like Big Macs. I do care if they both want to wipe Jews off the face of the earth as Farrakahn does. It was a ridiculous comparison in my opinion.

So if someone wants to put Ron Paul's name on a newsletter and call some folks some mean names HE is guilty of espousing the same views? Once again, if it is good for the goose it is good for the gander. People call Paul a racist, because by proxy someone said some dumb stuff in a newsletter, but Farakhan liking Obama and perhaps vice versa doesn't by proxy make him a racist? C'mon now.

If I recall, the only name on the newsletter is Paul's.
Now, if you're putting out a newsletter with your name on it, aren't you going to want to read it before it gets published? I know I would. If he really didn't know, that leads to feelings of incompetence as opposed to racism.
Kind of the same, but not really. If Farrakhan is writing articles in the Obama newsletter, then, we can agree...

1. I'm not running for office 2. Endorsing is not remotely the same as liking. There are Republican and Dems who like each other but would never "endorse" the other for office. 3. Believe me, he really won't like me at all.:smt118

Obama made a statement trying to distance himself ffrom Farrakhan, but he still attends the church that endorses him.

Reach a little further, dollfus, you just might fall over. Endorsements happen for all sorts of reasons. It's really not as cut and dry as you're trying to make it appear. Obama is a hot commodity; of course a has-been like Farrakhan who is looking for some sort of relevancy, any relevancy, is trying to hitch is wagon to that star.

Heaven help us all. So, then, by your means of drawing a straight line into a circle, IF YOU, let's say, attend the same church as a Notorious OUTLAW, who is "endorsed" by that church (in another city, by the way), then YOU are endorsing the OUTLAW, is that it?
So, it's:

Joe is bald, but Allen isn't.

You're just trying to dazzle us with footwork. Obama Yo Mama and his team are standing on their head to distance themselves from the AntiSemitic Farrakahn. It means something to enough people for them to react this way. Might not mean anything to you. But there are enough people out there who draw the same conclusion as I. I'm pretty sure he did, in fact, endorse Obama. Did he say, "I endorse Obama?" No. Worse. He said something like "Obama is the last great hope of the world." Or something similar.

Well, it's not just someone who attends the same church--the church leader endorses Farrakhan. Big difference there. I might attend church with some shady characters, but I sure as heck wouldn't go to a church LED by a shady character. Especially since I've also read that this (parentheses mine):
Wright helps keep his (Obama's) priorities straight and his moral compass calibrated.
"What I value most about Pastor Wright is not his day-to-day political advice," Obama said. "He's much more of a sounding board for me to make sure that I am speaking as truthfully about what I believe as possible and that I'm not losing myself in some of the hype and hoopla and stress that's involved in national politics."
Obama is inspired by this man...who also said Nancy Holloway was just some white girl who was stupid and "gave it up" on a beach...
Naw...I'd be changing churches.

What is there to discuss? Does Obama sit on the board of the church? Is Obama the church?
Whenever people started dinging Huckabee for his 6000 year old earth theory, why, you couldn't mention that. Religion was off topic, then. Seems like it's okay to attack someone who's not evangelical, ie Obama and Romney. I still can't believe the ignorance spouted out about Romney by card carrying evangelicals.
Here's how it is, though. We've evaluated the facts and chosen not to let them be a deciding factor in our support for Obama. Problem is, you guys keep throwing it up there and keep getting mad when it doesn't stick. You're trying to stick a round peg in a square hole. That's the mind numbing part of the whole ordeal... this has been going on since 2004 with Obama... seriously. Is this the best you guys have to attack Obama with?

Who is your "church leader" - THE leader ? Does he/she reside in Hattiesburg, Rome, St. Louis, Atlanta, or just where, pray (pun intended) tell? How would you know who that leader embraces who may not be precisely in line with your local church?
To draw a direct connection between Farrakhan (who does NOT attend the same Chicago church as Obama) and a local Chicago "leader/pastor" whom Obama listens to on occasion, premised upon that self-same pastor's "endorsement" (and you need to provide me the data/link for that, please) is circular illogic that won't fit, not if you live in the Real World.
Sorry.
All the Obamanites don't want to discuss the link between his church and Farrakhan.
It's hopeless. There are folk you can reason with, debate with, and even disagree with, and then? There is a limit to how much time one is willing to waste hollering off a mountain top, just to hear the same echo, over and over again. (I know, FishBait. You're dizzy again.)
