Hi. We got our first laptop this week. I am almost 54. My husband is 58. It's never too late to learn, right? I'm going back to school in May to finish up my Bachelor's from 1973. Who woulda thought? We are currently living in upstate New York. Planning to retire to Hattiesburg in 2010. By the way, anybody know of any reasonably priced communities for people our age? My husband has MS. He's a real tiger, though. Never gives up. My hero and inspiration for living!

Hi, Deena. Welcome. Are you tied to Mailman? You're right......You're never too old to learn, but I some of us are just too dayum lazy to do so.

HI Deena and Welcome. I hope when you return to school like I did after many years you don't spend the 8 hour library crams like I did tonight. Enjoy MH and Hattiesburg is addictable.

There are some nice retirement communities around Hattiesburg. There are a lot of retirees in my neighborhood actually, and my house if for sale in the calssified section on this board hint hint. :-D In all seriousness I would recommend my neighborhood to retirees regardless of my house because there are a lot of retirees there, it is centrally located to shoppping, restaurants, and healthcare/hospitals, and it is very safe. There are also a lot of retirees in a neighborhood called The Glen and in Madison Place subdivision, but I'd be careful about it because Bob Neil built a lot of the stuff over there.

Hi Deena, you might try Andy Stetelman @ London & Stetelman realtors 601-268-8770 for assistance in finding a nice place to live.
Welcome to a wonderful community. This is a community where people smile and say good morning to each other. A community where people have manners and a great outlook of life. I'm proud to live here. I hope Hattiesburg will give to you as it has for me. A wonderful life.

Deena, you may want to contact our Area Development Partnership (Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development organization).
They have a section on their website devoted to retirees (http://www.theadp.com/areainfo/retirement.html) who may be considering relocating to our area.

Bless your hearts. You are both brave souls. Curious as to why you like Hattiesburg?

Hi. Thanks everybody for your help and good wishes. I went to USM for a while in the 70's. My dad retired from military service to Mississippi, and that's how I got there. No, no connection to Mailman. Don't know about Bob Neil, either. Who is he? Thanks again, guys. Looking forward to getting down south again. We just went through two days of a snow storm. I can't see my car from here, but I assure you, I'll be out there shoveling and scraping at least 30 minutes before I can even pull out of the driveway. Oh yeah...I'm getting too old for this......

Absolutely. Y'all are 20 years too young for the retirement communities around here. As for Neill, I looked at a place in his Madison Place development. Looked very desirable on the outside, later was told by a home inspector that there have been numerous problems there. Be aware that the city of Hattiesburg has building codes, Lamar County does not. Caveat emptor.

Some of the neighborhoods south of Hardy St. (W. Pine St. to Hwy 49) have some very nice houses that are reasonable in price and very convienient to most everything. Good luck in your search.
