So, Sunday the high was 79. Predicted high for Tuesday is 53. Know what that means? Oh, yeah... front moving through. And all the fun weather that goes with it.

Lock up your lawnmowers, bring the kids in from the yard and enjoy the ride!!!

I am not sure if many people know, but there is a top notch weather research center in Petal called Pullman Point. I am involved in amateur radio ie Ham Radio and we utilize this as a resource to monitor up the minute conditions here in hattiesburg.

Mike Seidel fom the Weathe Channel is reporting from Jackson today. He just said that the sun shining tofay is a bad thing... means more heat & more instability when the front comes through :(

I'm less concerned about myself today. It's my mom I'm worried about. She's taking a night class in Wayne County (through William Carey) and will be driving back in the bad weather. I've begged her not to go to class, but she's stubborn. I really wish they would cancel.

Special Weather Statement

930 am CST Mon Mar 3 2008

...Severe weather outbreak this afternoon and tonight...

Significant severe weather with widespread damaging winds...strong
tornadoes...and large hail will be possible this afternoon and
tonight.

As a large and powerful storm system approaches the area...an
unstable and moist airmass will surge north from the Gulf of Mexico
today. Ahead of the strong cold front...this moisture will combine
with very strong wind shear to bring the potential for a major
severe weather event.

Severe thunderstorms could develop as early as midday west of the
Mississippi River...but the greatest potential for severe storms
will exist from mid afternoon through evening...as scattered severe
thunderstorms develop along and ahead of the cold front and
eventually form into a squall line.

Activity occurring west of the Interstate 55 corridor this afternoon
and evening will have the greatest chance of producing strong
tornadoes...while activity later in the evening along and east of
Interstate 55 corridor will have the highest chance of producing
widespread damaging winds. Please continue to monitor later
forecasts concerning this imminent severe weather outbreak.

Expires:032015 gmt

Maybe the Registrar's Office?

Radar at 6:30 showing two lines coming our way. Columbia - Marion County is under a tornado warning (northern half with cell moving north-east).

The CD Director in Pearl River County mentioned to some this afternoon the the National Weather Service has sent a weather observer to Hattiesburg for tonight.......... the first time he can ever remember such happening.

The lines moving our way don't appear to be "that" bad, but you never know.. Lots of small but destructive tornadoes can be spun off by these type lines and embedded cells.

Pay attention and have a plan in mind if you need to take cover quickly.. :smt023
