With a black candidate for President in Obama, and a woman candidate in Hillary, where do we draw the line on what we can say? Geraldine Farraro has made the statement that Obama wouldn't even be in the race if he wasn't black. She's immediately called a racist, which everyone knows she's not, and she is adament she's right and refuses to appologize. Is this racist or should she be allowed freedom of speech? It's practically the same thing Matthews said about Hillary. If her husband hadn't gotten caught cheating on her she wouldn't even been Senator from NY.
As for me, I think they are both right.

I don't know if Miz Ferraro's comments are "racist" or not, but they are without question STUPID-STUPID-STUPID, if she thinks she's helping out Hill.
I'm not sure "everyone" knows Gerry isn't racist. I, for one, don't know. I suppose I'll take her word for it, like Hill did about Obama's religious preferences.
I'm all for Free Speech, while admitting that sometimes it's grating upon the intellect and stomach.

Is this the same Chris Matthews that someone on the Obama thread called a *gasp* "liberal" ?? Well, there you go.
However, I demur with your opinion on the first part and concur on the second.

Political correctness is going to be our downfall.
Not just during the campaigns...but all the time.

I agree with you. Speak your piece - lay it all out there, and brace yourself for the arrows that fly back at you. This may start a race/gender war that rips the country, not in half, but in little teensy pieces. But, it'll at least be an honest deconstruction.

If it's true, why is it stupid? That's my whole point here.

Is it okay to say that McCain wouldn't be where he is if he hadn't been shot down and interned in a POW camp?

Sure, but that's not the case I don't think. Didn't help Bob Dole nor H.W. Bush :( I'd say they had plenty of experience after years in Washington.
