Angel Food Boxes available to ANYONE!
You can buy $60-$70 worth of groceries for $30.
Sounds too good to be true? Well, it isn't. Christian Services sells them every month and has for 5 years. You can see the menu or get more information at www.christianserve.org (http://www.christianserve.org). Or you can call 601-582-5683

It is a good deal if you have the time to wait in line. Do you still have to bring your own box??

You have to pay an extra dollar for a box. They aren't free.

I noticed the last time that this was posted it got heated among everyone. Let me see if I can answer the questions since I work here. We want this to be a blessing to people not a reason to spat.
The only time you really have to stand in line is if you get here right at 10. If you come in around 10:45 or so there is usually no more than 2 people in front of you and usually there is not a line at all.
As far as the boxes go. We don't have the ability to provide boxes for everyone so we do ask that you either bring a cardboard box to rotate into packing or pay a $1 box fee. The boxes we use are banana boxes and you can usually get them from any produce dept.

I might do this. Do you have to order it, or do you just show up? My sister used to do this but I thought she had to order hers.

Have any of you all ever bought one of these? Is it worth it? Is the food good? Is the food good for you? Is it all imported from China? I worry about antibiotics and what not and stuff from China.

It's a real good deal mac. I used to do it every once in a while. There is a menu you can get that shows what their having & you can just plan to go on the day they have the food you want.
Okay I see now. You can order on the website or call. I want to do it but I don't know if I have room in the freezer.

On a side note, if anybody is in the need of an angel food box and isn't financially able to purchase one themselves ... please send me a PM. I wouldn't mind buying a few a month for those truly in need.

You can go to christianserve.org and download a menu, order online, or bring your payment to the office. Yes the Chicken Cordon Bleu is good. And yes you can bring a box you don't like and get your food in one you do. :)

Same here. I love to help folks out, don't even like saying that.

We have several people that buy for others. We have churches that buy for people. But also remember that this is for everyone to be able to use their money wisely. It is not only for needy people. This is the way it works. CSI has to hire a truck to bring it to Hattiesburg. That truck costs us the same whether it is full or half full. AFM gives us a small transportation fee per box to help pay for the truck. SO....the more boxes ordered the less it costs Christian Services to provide this ministry. In other words, you ARE helping others even when you buy a box for yourself.

A friend in MO gets it, and when I've had dinner with her, I've not noticed a difference in the "angel food" food and anything else. If she hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have known.

Thanks....I don't want any mystery meat stuff, you know, sometimes there is this mystery meat and Fish-Bait ain't all about any mystery meat. I do like spam and mayonaise sammiches though.

It's not like factory seconds or anything like that. It's the same stuff that you buy off the shelf in the store. If I had room in my freezer, I'd do it, but my freezer is already full of stuff that I buy on sale and never get around to eating. :smt105 (cooking for one person is harder than it sounds)

I guess Hippichic bailed before I could get an answer. The website displays the April menu, but the cart has the March item, no idea what's in it. I guess it's going to be good either way.

The Jaycees will be helping pack boxes on the 19th. You can come on down and pitch in--get real up close and personal with the food and make your decision then. :smt023

I know some ladies I used to work with who split the boxes between them so they'd have room.

I did that as well. I ended up giving one box to an elderly lady that lives next door to us. The person I originally purchased it for must not have needed the help as bad as it was made out to be.

For the price, it wasn't bad. I had no idea what a "Banger" was, but it said it was fully cooked, looked like a hotdog. Most of what I got is either in the freezer or pantry still. I doubt I'll go again, unless things take a down turn.
