2 McCain Moments, Rarely Mentioned (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/24/us/politics/24mccain.html?hp)
...What Mr. McCain almost never mentions are two extraordinary moments in his political past that are at odds with the candidate of the present: His discussions in 2001 with Democrats about leaving the Republican Party, and his conversations in 2004 with Senator John Kerry about becoming Mr. Kerry’s running mate on the Democratic presidential ticket.
There are wildly divergent versions of both episodes, depending on whether Democrats or Mr. McCain and his advisers are telling the story. The Democrats, including Mr. Kerry, say that not only did Mr. McCain express interest but that it was his camp that initially reached out to them. Mr. McCain and his aides counter that in both cases the Democrats were the suitors and Mr. McCain the unwilling bride....

McCain IS a RINO. Most republicans recognize it.
Honestly, I don't know why anyone who calls themselves conservative would vote for McCain. He hasn't acted conservatively.

Because I don't like the alternative. A third party vote is a wasted vote. Despite the statement it would make to the GOP, I don't feel like blowing this election for this statement is worth what would happen over the next 4 years to this country.

It doesn't matter if it's McCain or Hillary... you're still getting a democrat in office.
McCain is about as conservative as Bill Clinton...
hey, maybe he can play up tha angle...

Don't look now Romney fans, but it appears there could be a McCain/Romney ticket on the Repub side. Romney is traveling with McCain to help him pull votes in the mountain areas (mormon country). Romney has stated he would accept the #2 spot.
Does this mean we could have a McCain/Romney vs Obama/Clinton in Nov? That would be something! They all hate each other.

This is what I have been SCREAMING about! I have repeated over and over that I will NOT, I REFUSE, to vote for McCain! He's not a conservative!!!!
People are too focused on what Obama's FORMER pastor said to even pay attention to #$%$ like this! Have Americans gone deaf and blind?

Romney freaks me out. There's something about him that doesn't seem "right." I can't put my finger on it, but something really weirds me out when I see this guy on TV. I don't see how he could possibly benefit McCain in this election. Sure, he's more conservative than McCain, but hell so is Obama in my opinion. The illegal alien issue is a big deal to me. McCain's stand on it has ruined him in my eyes. That, along with other things. Unless he gets Ms. Rice, or Mr. Powell, he's got a snowball's chance in hell of getting my vote!

Why don't Americans run for office anymore?

I would love nothing more than for the Republicans to kick his ass to the curb at the convention. Someone to come out of the dark and save the party would be the most we could hope for at this point! IF he were to choose a running mate that was even more liberal than he is, I could see this happening! I hope to God that someone will step forward!

After the Dem. convention, there'll be some stuff coming out about Obama that should scare the living daylights out of people.
And McCain refuses to deal with illegals in O'Reilly interview. The illigitimate so and so. What a wuss. He just doesn't give a fat rat's patoot what 90% of the country want. That's arrogance.

you drank the kool aid if you think a 3rd party vote is a wasted vote
and you might be right if you are myopic as to think as far as the current election
a 3rd party vote sends a message to the party ... that you are a conservative but do not agree with the direction of the party itself
we can all agree that we are screwed the next 4-8 years just like we were screwed when GWB got in office... because of a lack of real options
but i assure you... if you want real change in the republican party down the road instead of them continuing on the same godforsaken path... tehn vote 3rd party or vote democrat
the more 3rd party votes will tell the powers that be that we want real conservatives... not crap ones.
but if you cant think past november... then this point is moot.

so i think the plan is to install mccain on the basis that hes more liberal and people are more likely to vote... then start pulling the puppet strings to turn him into a neocon

I think America listens to what Fox News has to say way too often. For the longest time Giuliani was the front-runner. When he couldn't win a primary, the media shifted its focus to whomever else was of Giuliani's ilk. McCain, Giuliani, Romney, and probably by now Huckabee are members of the CFR. So was Thompson and Gilmore. Then, on the other side Obama, Richardson, Biden, and Dodd were too. Either way it goes, we have someone who is NOT elected pulling the strings on our foreign and domestic policy. Thank you, CFR for ruining a great country.

Oh yeah. McCain is a sorry excuse for a conservative. I don't care if he's Republican or Democrat. I'm looking for a conservative. Obama is a radical loon in my opinion, with absolutely no business running for president other than George Soros has him up there. I may not vote at all and just turn off the TV for the next four years and live as a national news isolationist. I'll just pretend there is no world outside where I live, until the terrorists come knocking, and they will.:smt023

Didn't McCain fall in SC in the last election because of all the push polling about his "illegitimate black daughter?"
Quit looking at McCain as a conservative or a liberal. Look at him as a LEADER, willing to cross the aisle to work for better policies. There are few like him.
This is not the election year to be splitting the ticket and voting for 3rd party candidates. Remember what happened when Perot ran? If I were a democratic strategist, I wouldn't try to persuade voters to my candidate. I would try to scare them off McCain enough to split the vote, thus allowing my candidate to win.
Don't get sucked in by the hype.

Horsefeathers. If I want someone to cross the isle, I'll vote for one across the isle. I want someone to grab those across the isle "by the nose and kick 'um in the ass." - Gen. Patton. H.W. reached across the isle and it cost him his re-election. Remember, "Read my lips. No more taxes." ? He reached across the isle to the Dems and they grabbed him by the nose and you know the rest. The Reb's reached across the isle and we have Ginsburg, Beyer, et al. The Dems refused to cross the isle and a new term was coined called getting "Borked". Not one Federal judge has been approved by the Dems in 2008. They're reaching across the isle. McCain reached across the isle and we have the McCain-Feingold Law. And the radical democrats are killing us with it. Shall I list a few of the organizations that grew out of that jewel? :
America Coming Together
America Votes
Democratic Senate Majority Fund
New House Pac
Media Fund
Partnership for America's Families
Moving America Forward.
America Majority Institute
To name a few. ATTA BOY, Johnnie. Screw reaching across the isle. Just my opinion.
I would like better choices too, but we gotta play with the cards that were dealt.

I still say we'll have McCain for the next 4 years because Obama has this and the Clinton Machine will work behind the scenes to make sure Obama loses this time so she'll have a better chance in 2012 against McCain than Obama.

That's the second time you've accused someone of "drinking the kool aid." The first time it was me.
Just because someone disagrees with you, it doesn't mean they've been duped. You are in the minority here (just like the people at Jonestown). Did the Dems learn anything when Perot or Nader ran? No. It's going to be business as usual no matter who you vote for. There isn't going to be any grand lesson learned if I vote third party. There isn't going to be any social revolution if I vote third party. However, there just might be a President Obama if I vote third party. Quit belittling people because they are going to vote for McCain.

I will not be holding my nose. I like McCain and have liked McCain since he ran against Bush in 2000. Consistently on this forum I have said "get away from Republicans and Democrats."
Make your vote for "change" by Obama. I'm cool with that. I'll just ride out his presidency overseas until the "next election cycle."
Oh, and anyone who says "drinking the Kool-aid" is doing the same from those Conservative pundits who have just worn the ever-lovin' tar out of that phrase.
