(CNN) — Chelsea Clinton has fielded a lot of questions as she campaigns for her mother's presidential bid, but on Tuesday the former first daughter faced a particularly awkward query for the first time.

Campaigning at Butler College in Indianapolis, an audience member asked the 28 year-old whether the Monica Lewinsky scandal had damaged her mother's reputation.

"Wow, you're the first person actually that's ever asked me that question in the, I don't know maybe, 70 college campuses I've now been to, and I do not think that is any of your business," Clinton responded, appearing a bit surprised by the question. The crowd immediately cheered loudly at the response.

I guess the days of Hilary's people "picking" people to ask scripted questions are over. :-D

Good lord I feel for any child raised by those two.

They, the media, said that is why they never take direct questions from them. The Clintons want to avoid every possible controversial issue that they've ever been involved in. When Hillary was asked about Ron Brown, Vince Foster, and a few other things, she began speaking out about Obama's former pastor.... :kekeke:

I have no problem with people asking Bill or Hillary questions like that, but only a jerk would ask Chelsea. That man has no class or respect.

Part of me agrees with ya, Baloo. But then the other part of me thinks that since she has put herself out there, she should expect things like that. And I am also surprised that it has not come up sooner.

Good point.

I agree Virgo, that is a good point since she is soliciting votes for her mother.

That's exactly right. She didn't have to come out to campaign for Hilary. For years, she was protected in terms of media coverage and questions...but when she made the decision to come out and campaign, she lost that protection.

I don't care if she's put herself out there for her mothers sake. There still needs to be a level of class when it comes to how humans treat one another. Asking a child of parents who went through an adultery scandal for all the world to see about the scandal is pretty damn low in my opinion. I think she answered it just fine.

As for the comment made earlier about scripted questions for the Clinton's. If you or anybody think for one minute Bush never surrounded himself in a forum filled with scripted questions, you're VERY naive.

Hmm, I disagree this time. I thoroughly dislike the Clintons, and I disagree with Hillary's decision to stay with Bill, but asking a child about a parent's adultery crosses a line in my book. It's not as if Hillary was the guilty party. That had to have been a soul-searing experience for Chelsea, and she shouldn't be obliged to discuss it, ever.

Calm down. I never said that Bush (nor another other politician for that matter) did not surround themselves in forums filled with scripted forums. Of course they do that, how else would they be able to "push" their platforms.

Hmmmmm -
I think a better response to that question would have been something like - "That is a crude, demeaning and moot question that I will not dignify with an answer."

Or - a simple 'Yes' or 'No'.

I don't know, tupac....I used to think she was uglier than a bowling shoe, but she blossomed well....plus, she's got a good job....and, you know she's got to be a freak....look at her daddy!

Hurray for Chelsea. People should be more considerate when questioning others about the personal matters of their families. She had absolutely no control over what Bill Clinton did.

I dunno Ted. My best friend wasn't the most attractive when we were younger (very much Chelsea-ish), but these days...she's pretty hot (and I know there was no funds for plastic surgery in the coffers).

How does her answer in any way show she has no manners? Maybe if she said "it's none of your business" then leaned over and ripped one, then I'd agree with you.

:smt023 Heh heh heh. That WAS funny. I failed to communicate.......again. The question was stupid. Did your Dad's affair ruin Your Mom's reputation? Wasn't that the question? Hell, I'm confused now. How does that relate to a campaign? And the answer, "It's none of your business" doesn't fit. Maybe, " I ono. Ask Dad" would have been a better answer. Or better still, "Heck no. It almos put us back in the White House again.":smt023

I think that Chelsea must be perfectly able to take care of herself by the way she answered the question. At least she didn't change the subject or lie when she was asked the question.
