When you make a deposit it takes 1-3 days for it show on your account? But when you go to sonic your money is gone when the card is swiped. I checked my checking account and the sonic transaction was on my account before I got home..
Do any banks credit your account automaticly on deposits? If you go into a bank and give them cash money they should credit your account right then.

If you make a cash deposit, BancorpSouth post it to your account immediately. They've never taken long to post money on my account. If it is made after 3-4, they will post it the following day, but a note of it is made on my account

Cash and don't worry. Cut them cards up. You need to listen to Dave Ramsey.

Dave Ramsey is great, but my debit card is totally different than a credit card. I agree completely with him on the credit card thing. I got all of mine paid off, and will not own another.

It depends on whether your bank has a 2:00 cut off or not. For instance, if you go in on a Friday afternoon after 2:00 Then anything you do is considered Monday's business. That means even though you made the deposit on Friday - it won't go in until Monday and won't show up until Tuesday.
Most banks now tag the $ out immediately when using your debit card. They hold the money for upto 7 days or until the merchant sends the transaction in.

My opinion if you walk into the bank and deposit cash they should credit your account no matter what time of day. If the bank is open and that teller takes your cash credit the account.
I havent had a problem because I have no money but a friend did and she is pissed off..lol

Don't use banks at all... for that very reason. Central Sunbelt FCU credits the deposit if its done 5 minutes before closing.

suggestion:
switch to a credit union if at all possible
i HATE banks with a passion... ive had nothing but problems with bank after bank... i joined central sunbelt and i have had zero problems
they even post my deposits as soon as i put the deposit in...i can do it at 4:29pm and go home and check online and theres my money

I have made a deposit and paid a bill at the same time. If the deposit had not gone in right away, I would have been OD. Trustmark has always treated me great.

We use First Southern Bank and our deposits get posted to our account immediately.

i am going to disagree with that...
im pretty sure i can recognize and experience a good day with its full purpose without having a bank screw stuff up for me

Last week was just one big comedy of errors, and now the bank has managed to extend it into this week. Geez, now I really know the meaning of that saying "Life sucks, and then you die".

1st of all, not all banks have a 2:00 cutoff time.
2nd of all, it's a federal regulation to put holds on out of "region" checks which you may be trying to deposit. This protects the customer and the bank from loss.
3rd - if you deposit cash, it goes straight into your account. If you deposit a local check or a check drawn on your bank, it goes straight into your account.
4th - if you're using a PIN based card then it'll automatically come out of your account as if you are making an ATM withdrawal. Same thing with writing a check at Walmart these days (know how they hand your check back to you).

If it takes 3 days for your deposit to show up, have a chat with your banker. Out of state checks take longer. Your banker can wave that or you might want to change banks if he won't. Shouldn't take more than 24 hours for your money to show up. And, yes, they are screwing you that way. But all banks screw their customers. They make a fortune on overdraft charges. Banks used to, at the end of the day, add all deposits and THEN subtract all withdrawals. Now they don't. There's a reason. Billions in overdraft profits.

wasn't there a lawsuit against a bank about excessive overdraft charges? It cost them about 2 bucks to process a bad check, but they charge 25-32 bucks for it???
I understand that is to discourage people from writing bad checks, but DAMN!

If you have stock in banks you're in good shape. Especially small local State banks. You'll never lose, in my humble opinion.

I use BancorpSouth, and have for YEARS. I've never had any problems with them, but I don't like the fact that money isn't posted to your account immediately, unless it is cash. I'm kinda glad that I am with them. I didn't have to change accounts, banks, anything when I moved. The only thing I did have to do, was put in an address change! =)

I use USM credit union and have no had problems. My money and checks go in when I put them in.
If it takes 2-3 business days for your deposit to be posted, you got the wrong bank. Might wanna try BANCORPSOUTH, been with them for 45 years. Back when it was Bank of Mississippi, never had a problem.

Noway, I called USM Credit Union and asked to clarify some things. I found out that USM Credit Union is a LIVE bank and that is why if I give them a deposit at 10 minutes before they close, it goes in right then.
So, if you want to know if and when your money goes in, ask if it's a live bank and when their WORK day ends.
I also asked about if I brought a check in from say an insurance company or whatever, if it would be on hold. she said they would call to verify that it is ok or if uncertain let me know if it is on hold.
I also asked about when deposits and debits are posted and I was told deposits are usually added ahead before transactions are debited.
She also said a person overlooks the reports next a.m. and if something bounced that person would look to see if a deposit was made and then adjust in my favor.
I have been pleased with their service.
