My son's school is out on April 11th for a 'Holiday'. I don't have class on April 11th (not sure if it's a holiday or not).
Does anyone know what this 'Holiday' is??? I've googled it, but can't find anything.

Mostly likely its staff development or something similar.

Staff developments say 'staff development' or something similar. This clearly says 'Holiday'.

Kinda weird, CB. I Googled a couple of things too and couldn't find a reason for it. My kids are in school on the 11th. Federal Offices are open. :smt102

Not sure about 4/11 but 4/20 is usually one helluva holiday for some.

I don't know about USM but Petal did it because Easter was so early this year and was the week following Spring Break. Petal is actually out on the 14th as well. These two days were built in so that there would be a "break" during April since there are no other "off days" between now and the end of the school year. They very well could have used them to make up for "bad weather" days if we had to have closed school because of weather but since we didn't have any bad weather this year we get 2 free days in April:-D

I have a friend that works for the schools and she said it was "weather days" that we have to use. I would have thought Petal had used all their "weather days" already.

CB that's the day after Mrs DY comes home from England -of course it will be widely celebrated!:smt023
Seriously, Petal's School calendar has the following annotation:
**January 7 and April 11 are potential make-up days for any school cancellation due to bad weather, etc.

April 11th is national school violence prevention day. The teachers all get together in the longue and take Jello shot and Jet fuel shot (Everclear + blue curaco) and celebrate that the year is almost over and they have survived another year. April 14th is for the teachers who still have a hangover :smt118

Does that mean on the 11th all us girlies need to go out and find dandelions to rub on our neck so we know if we're in love or if someone is in love with us? :-D

Petal hasn't missed a single day for weather. They had an early release (by a few minutes one day).
I thought the extra day was bc of Leap Year. Schools go a specific number of days each year...and this year they got an "extra" day. Soooo it's used as a Holiday/Weather day.

Luvia, good call but I think it was 2 days actually but you are right it was past the "official" cutoff time so it didn't count against em.
